Title: Square gaming system....
Post by: Joey on 2001-05-08 15:41:00
Looks like this section has been left out in the dust for a while. Here's what I found out about Square.....

one new game system(I mean, FF, LoM, SoM)on one new platform will be done like a beta with a lot of I don't care attidute on the game. If game is liked by many, game system gets complicated......

(I'm not sure what I'm saying....:rolleyes :)

Ok I have two things to say about it.

1 - I don't even get what you just said.
2 - If someone can make sense out of it, its probably a "Joey-tale" anyway.

Square are developing a new game engine, coupled with a new RPG style, on a new console (xbox, gamecube, etc). it will be released as a game in a "beta" situation (basically full of bugs). if its popular, sqaure will continue more research & developement on this engine to take it further and make it more complex.

DAMN, that makes little sense to me :O

i think even joey admits he isnt sure what he saying
but this is bullshit, with a capital B, and not for Bugs either. they wouldnt release an unfinished product to save their lives.

Hahaha Joey the local idiot... that still cracks me up... I keep hearing that square is going to release ff7 remake on xbox.. i also read somewhere that Square said they would stick to the game system that was the easiest to program for.. which would be the xbox.. i just heard that its easier to code for and that microsoft is basically trying to give away developer kits to it.. or for decently cheap compared to others.. If you ask me Game cube is gonna flop.. i think nintendo is gonna blow on this one.. they are already behind in their specs.. from least to greatest on the specs level i believe it goes

PS2
GameCube
Xbox

I think... I really need a dvd player but i think i am gonna wait to see what happens in the end because thats how your really gonna find out.. Companies talk alot of shit but like everyone knows actions speak louder than words... Oh and shut up joey...

We had a big April Fool's Day joke about FF7 on X-Box, I think.

I dunno how fast Squaresoft will move to X-Box?  They're already planning FFX and XI (and XII I believe I saw at FFOnline.com?) for PS2, as well as numerous other games.  X-Box will be out in the US like end of this year / beginning of next year?  You'd think they might have tried to make plans to switch over.

Another thing - X-Box is an America-based system (Microsoft) I believe, and Squaresoft is a Japan-based company.  So even if the US gets X-Box first and then Japan, Japan will get the games first and then America... how does this all work out?

Personally, I'm gonna get a Gamecube... I've been into Nintendo for a while and I like Zelda and Rareware games and stuff, all I would use a PS2/X-Box for would be Squaresoft games and I don't wanna get one of those if I'm not even sure which system Squaresoft is gonna continue to develop for?  Plus, there are already plans to release FFXI for PC, rumors about IX (who cares now?) and X, and...  emulators for those systems will be around eventually.

Ok, that's my attempt to make this thread useful.

Yeah your right Square is based in Japan.. or let me fix that.. they are a japanese company..  Japan has a bigger game market supposedly than america.. so games are released in japan the moved to america depending on sales i believe.. although Anime seems to be taking over the country fast over here.. In some magz it keeps talking about how american people are incorporating japanese language into everyday speech.. just using basic words like the japanese word for cool and bye and stuff.. though thats not happening everywhere.. i can vouch for that... God it almost seems like this country if full of idoits.. LoL oh well.. Doidashimasthe... yeah i probably spelled it wrong..  :)

Are Japanese people starting to use more English?  It seems like a lot of Japanese stuff I've seen recently is written in a whole bunch of cryptic Japanese symbols, then there's some plain English readable words, and then more Japanese.  Seems like you'd think most of them have a basic grasp on the English language.

...If only they'd make thier games in English.

Yes, in a word. Though Japanese always did include a lot of "Western" ie. English words, especially when they encountered something they didn't have a word for already. I remember hearing that Japanese teenagers in particular use a lot of more-or-less English words ... I think English is compulsory at most Japanese schools, or at least, most people study it.

And yes, that's been around for a long time.  Personally, I'd prefer it if they left that kind of job to experienced translators ^_^;

Actually, it sounds like Square's going to be staying with the PS2, and maybe only the PS2. http://www.totalff.com/news/9875118519969.shtml  (On a side note, I don't really care for totalFF, it just happened to be the first place I found it.)

I hope people cant set up free servers for Final Fantasy XI like they did with Ultima Online. Montly charges blow. I would pay them but there bloody hard to pay if you have a paranoid father.

My understanding is that there will be a monthly charge. http://www.neoseeker.com/news/articles/headlines/Games/590

I can't find the place where I read it, but it's something like FFXI will cost $10 to buy and then there's the monthly charge. IIRC, there will also be several releases of expansion packs (mandatory buys to keep playing) which will cost additional $.

FFX won't be cheap either: http://www.totalff.com/news/98750180951038.shtml  (Hmmph, another TotalFF article. Ah, well, who cares?)

Ha ha! All that Engrish stuff is really funny. Now I don't feel nearly so bad about my grammatical skills. There's just one thing. It says that the "Japanese Engrish of the Week" was provided by Collin Williamson. I'd bet a lot that that's the same Collin Williamson who works for PC-GAMER magazine. He's supposed to be living in Japan (I can't remember why now). He's pretty funny... writes a column called "The Killing Box".

I dont believ e that square will go to the xbox as in japan it is not regarded to highly, square is a japanese company and japan is the worlds biggest games market, see what I', getting at - they are not gonnna release their games on a system that is not very likely to take off.
Im going Gamecube as it is technicaly similar to the xbox which at the moment is miles ahead of the ps2 games at the momnt but i reckon that the PS2 has a greater scope for improvement than the Xbox or Gamecube but the quetion i how long will it take for the companies to be programming games of the same graphical quality as consistenetly as the ones weve been shown so far on the Xbox and the Gamecube.
Btw I reckon that Rogue Squadron 2 on thwe Gamecube is one of the best looking games ive seen and Eternal darkness on the cube has one of the best Ideas, but I do like the look of red faction on the ps2...

Square won't be able to resist MS's offers. Just wait for another  2-4 years. We'll see....
