Title: 8-bit once again...
Post by: razgriz on 2005-06-17 14:17:44
It's about ff8. Everything passes but just that fails. I've tried using patches and stuff but I cannot get it to work. I've searched all over the forum to find same or similar problems but none of the answers solves it.

I have ATI Radeon 9200 SE 128 MB graphics card and I've also tried tweaking it but it remains the same as it was...

any solutions?

please help :(

I don't know if it works for ATI's but if the 8 bit pallet says Failed... It should.

Use the TNTpatch. overwrite both FF7.exe and FF7config.exe with the ones in the patch.

With luck you'll see the Hardware mode in the FF7config.exe. Select that, Nivida,  and TNT. If you get a black screen you need to install Movieplayer from the install disk. Selection should be right under the FF7installation option and above the Yamaha installation.

Oh wait...FF8? Umm... Did FF8 need the 8bit pallet thing? I'm not sure if it did or didn't.
Nah..I don't know how to get FF8 working. Might need to find an ATI driver where the 8bit pallet is on.  The 8bit pallet being disabled or enabled is controlled by the driver. Lot's of times they just break that part of the driver...or maybe overlook it.

(He said FF8, FF7 patch won't help...)

For me, 8-bit failes in FF8Config, but Direct3D is still a choice, I pick it, and it works fine.  Can you not select Direct3d?

I saw that....
read the second paragraph.

Aaron..you have an ATI?
Maybe telling him the version of driver your using would help?

Oh, sorry... guess I was in a hurry.

Yeah, I have an ATI. :-P
(I got it when the fan on my GeForce4 Ti 4600 went wierd.)

Anyway, I'm using Catalyst 5.4 (not that I have a problem with the newer ones... just haven't got around to updating -- I don't plan to have this card much longer anyway... back to nVidia for me).

aaron, I can switch between opengl and direct 3d. I've tried tweaking direct3d as many times as i could as you can see in this pic:

but no results are visible...

and icydamo, I don't see any links to patches or else on this site http://ffsf.cjb.net/

MOD EDIT: Do not post big images.

...ew days after Christmas. Check it out on the Soundfonts Page. And...

Take the link (Soundfonts Page in above quote) from the main sight to get to the download page. its not broken into section and seems to be one solid page, the link to the download page could have been given but its the same URL as the front page we got to.

No, no, no, I mean here:

8-bit Paletted Textures fails, but you can still choose Direct3D for the game, and everything works great.  So, there's nothing to worry about.

(This is a problem in FF7, because the game will not let you select Direct3D if anything fails, so you have to use the 1.02 patch to get around it.)

but that is the thing:

I simply can't get it to work.

Would someone mind connecting to my pc via TightVNC?

MOD EDIT: Once again, do not post big images

You can select Direct3D.
Does the game not run?  (If it does run, then just ignore the failure in FF8Config.)

The direct link to the FFSF download page is http://aaronserv.dyndns.org/hosting/ffsf/patch.html.  You can get the patch (which may be a good idea, since it fixes some other bugs), but I think you should be able to run the game without it.

I can run the game but the problem is that the landscape is so smooth...

Tell me which graphics card do you use and what driver do you use?

razgiz:
Do not post any bigger images here directly anymore - I'm not going to edit every single of your posts here.
Your images were ~150KB per image, this is too much for a direct image post. Remember there are still people using 56k connections.

Can you post a screen shot of what you're talking about ("the landscape is so smooth")?  Because, I don't really understand what the problem is.

I have a Radeon 9800 Pro and I'm using Catalyst 5.4 (haven't upgraded to later ones just because I'm lazy, but doubt there would be any problems).

Yeah... looks like you're using software rendering?

Please check FF8Config, graphics tab:  Are you able to select "Direct3D Hardware Acceleration" for the renderer, and do you have it selected?

I am able to select direct3d software rendering but it's the same as software rendering...

and I've also noticed that some lines are appearing...

and I have Radeon 9200 SE 128 MB.
