Title: Game not running
Post by: Lenas on 2005-06-30 17:48:02
Hey everyone,

My problem is this:  Every time I go to run FF7, my screen goes black like it's starting normally, and then it goes back to my desktop, with FF7 in the taskbar.  Every time I try to restore it, it flickers the screen and goes back to desktop again.  I was playing my game fine a couple days ago, so it seems this has happened without reason.

I'm using WinXp with the necessary patches.  After I got fed up trying to change settings to see if anything worked, I gave up and downloaded a copy - which also didn't work.  Now, the only way for me to play FF7 is to use window mode provided by the Cetra program.

Anyone have a solution?

If you choose software rendering in FF7Config, does it still do the same thing?

Okay, now I'm confused.  I ran ff7 today and it's fine.  No crashing, no nothing.  The last things I did to modify any of it was turn on the window patch and turn it off.

le`sigh.  Sorry for the waste of a thread.

Okay, found out the problem is this:

Everytime I play the game and quit, ff7.exe does not stop running in my task manager, even though the game shuts down.  Ending the process will allow me to run the game again though.  But it can get annoying every time I shut it off for half an hour or so to eat and wanna play again when finished.

Anyone have a solution?

You are using Windows 98 Compat Mode, end the process via CTRL+ALT+DEL.

Ah, thanks.  I remember changing it to w98 compat. mode because of a suggestion somewhere else on this forum.  That seems to have fixed it.

Appreciate the replies.
