there has been rumors about the final fantasy 7 remake that it has been canceled. id like to start a petition topic to and maybe someone will notice who know it could show up in ign news next week.
who wants square to continue working on the remake
-
....
I think that you might be several years late on this... :isee:
-
how is this old i just out found yesterday could you at least give me a link to the topic this was disscused
-
Than your getting your news late, the Final Fantasy remake on this forum was cancelled long before I ever joined this forum.
Its difficult to post a link to the topic as the forum for it is invisible to regular users.
Unless you are talking about something that someone is doing by themselves that is, I beliive several people are. If you want to read about that hpwever, got to Game Tweaking.
-
ok thanks
-
From what I know, Square has never worked on a remake.
-
That's what I was wondering about:
spazmaster: What remake are you taling about? A Remake done by Square or a Remake done by us?
(I think this will answer some questions...)
- Alhexx
-
*imagines the number of online petitions that will be started because of this*
That was said a while ago about the same kind of thing - no remake for PS3.
who wants square to continue working on the remake
Alhexx - I'm guessing a remake done by Square.
-
who wants square to continue working on the remake
I am more than open to the possibility that spazmaster is confused about who is doing what.
I wouldn’t go so far as to presume this quote answers Alhexx’s question.

Unless he means the PS3 tech demo?
-
As far as I can remember a remake of FF7, 8 and 9 was leaked out about 3 years ago or longer. But nothing ever came of it. As for E3, they said right from the beginning that FF7 wasn't going to be a remake for the PS3....they said exepect a new FF game for the PS3, whatever that means.
But, on a lighter note...they said the same thing about FF7:AC, when they did it's Demo in Tokyo....2 years ago. Think they were Demo'ing some kind of new rendering technology or something. They said this it wasn't going to be a new anime'....and look.....they made it into one, anyway.
-
There is ONLY a tech demo of the Final Fantasy VII Intro, Tech DEmo mean that it is just a Movie that let's you see the power of the PS 3, there's NO remake of any FF Game... at least, not at the moment
-
In addition, there WAS a project on here EONS ago called "The Final Fantasy Remake Project", which was more of a fan-sequal than a remake. That got canned, though.
-
Actually, there IS going to be a remake of FF7 for the PS3. It was on Gamespot a week or two ago. Square pretty much lied at E3, they later confirmed it. Maybe this month's EGM.
Let the b*tching commence!
-
Pfah
Just when we were making progress making the existing game better.
Motherfuckers. I bet they're doing this just to spite us =P
[edit] uh, qhimm, i think the swearing filter needs tweaking o_o

Wait a second.... theres a swearing filter?

Actually, there IS going to be a remake of FF7 for the PS3. It was on Gamespot a week or two ago. Square pretty much lied at E3, they later confirmed it. Maybe this month's EGM.
I have yet to find any sort of official confirmation on this, nor any story on Gamespot. All the current stories floating around regarding the supposed remake seem to originate from this EGM rumor article (http://www.qhimm.com/images/egm_ff7_remake_rumor.jpg). Now while EGM speaks of "very good authority", most people seem to forget that these days it is highly questionable if EGM itself falls under that category. And unless all the news sites happened to be not looking while Square-Enix "confirmed" a new remake and so forgot to report what would be one of the hottest stories of the year, the last official word is that there are no plans for such a thing.
That having been said, the idea of Square making sequels and spin-offs to FF games was pretty laughable not so long ago as well. And they have done graphical remakes on the early FFs, so it's not exactly unthinkable that a FF7 remake would show up, theoretically speaking. In the real world they're still officially saying it's not going to happen, however there also some other tidbits of information about Square and the PS3 floating around:
During an interview with the Japan Gaming Magazine "Dengeki Playstation", Yoshinori Kitase (Director of Final Fantasy VII) revealed a Final Fantasy title is in the works for the PS3.
With the recent denials that a remake of Final Fantasy VII is in the works for the PS3, serveral sites have speculated that this may be Final Fantasy XIII. To this speculation Kitase-san responded...
"As a hint, one thing I can say is that the FFVII technical PS3 demo was supervised by me and created by Toriyama-san (Main Director on Final Fantasy X-2) and his team staff. I'll leave it to you, but you can imagine that development is happening via a similar process."
I don't know who's being deliberately vague; Kitase, Dengeki Playstation or the translator, but regardless of what he's hinting at (I know what you're thinking) it's at the very least nothing less than a FF game. More than that, we shouldn't assume (especially seeing how Square-Enix has had a habit of surprising fans). And considering how far away the PS3 itself is, any news on PS3 games, FF7 remake or not, should be taken with a sound bit of caution.
Well, feel free to post any other credible sources on the matter, but I'm not holding my breath.
uh, qhimm, i think the swearing filter needs tweaking o_o
Hah, the swearing filter was never meant to endure such abuse. I prefer to filter my users. *looks sharply at abusers and hovers finger over warning button*
-
The ps2 remakes were canned shortly after the ps2 launch.
-
Ahhh, there we go. I couldn't find any article of Gamespot, it was completely off the top of the head. I knew I remembered reading it somewhere. Thanks Qhimm @_@

Yeah, Bunnie-Maru has some wicked skill there, reading articles from two weeks into the future. ;) Yes, the tech demo was displayed during the Compilation of FF7 trailer viewing (unannounced, whereas the other releases shown were listed at the start of the viewing). And no, Square Enix isn't going to come out and say "no it will never happen" about a rumor that when left as it is only pushes the FF7 hype even higher. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though. :)

You'd be suprised what you'll find in Cosmopolitan. :P
I actually saw that article a few days ago, and I started laughing. Unfortunately, its just more wishwash, not an actual, firm yes. :-?
-
Well...if history has anything to do with it.... a sequel or remake of FF7 will happend because of the demand.... Just like what happend with Advent Children.
I would rather have a sequel, though.
-
Well...if history has anything to do with it....
Lets hope it doesnt...
I for one don't want to see Cloud in a miniskirt, dancing and singing on stage.

Heh, I don't think we'll be seeing any of this:

anytime soon.
Personally I'd like a remake, with a little bit more to do. Maybe a few more places to visit, new things to discover, or as one person said over at AC.net, have the game go from BC to AC. :D

A remake would be nice, I would like a graphical update to FFVII and FFVIII. Although, we should have the erase option too, as in, erase X-2 and (kill me) FFIX. What a waste of talent...
Capcom had the right idea with RE, so if the quality of a remake can be that, or *gasp* even higher, life would get .1% better.
-
I read in a post some where on the forums that there may be a FFXIII for the PS3, but to my knowledge I heard they were stopping after 12??
-
Tetsuya Nomura said in one of his interviews that he would very much like to remake FFVII, but after his current projects. Considering the amount of projects that are currently being worked on and the sheer time needed to complete the redesign, the remake will most likely begin production in 3-4 years. As for when it comes out, who knows. Possiby never.

I'd like to know what was so wrong with ff9? It's my personal second favourite O.o
-
Lots of people say that.. but just the same number say it sucked. I think it was the abrupt change from 7 and 8 into how 9 was.. just my opinion though..

DJ is exactly right..
I hated 9.. I could relate to cloud, and I could also relate to Squall.. But I just couldn't relate nor care about the monkey boy..
I still played it.. I even beat it.. But.. After I played it through .. Ignoring most of the side quests.. I never touched it again. 9 just felt like a kiddie game.. And I didnt like that at all.. The characters looked like they were targeted at a young audience, and so did the scenery .. It just felt wrong to me..
-
Same here. That's how I felt. I still played it and bought it and everything... but... just couldn't find myself getting into it too greatly..
My friend on the other hand, who had played FF's before 7 and 8, loved 9. He said it went back to how things used to be in some senses, but he still felt that the game was targeted at a younger audience because of the way it looked.
-
Well seeing as this got off topic...
http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/748/748460/vid_1199771.html
^link to the E3 trailer (un-friggin-believable).
imagine if we got a remake of FF7 that looked like that?
But ill say this. If they are going to do a remake, they better do a COMPLETE remake. None of that crap they pulled with FF4/2 and Chrono Trigger (just add a few CG cut scenes). I want to see FF10+ quality FMV and map graphics integrated. No more HUGE polygons for cloud's legs and arms.
Mmmm...i drool just thinking about it. I'd pay any $ for a remake like that.
This is all kinda funny too, since I just re-ordered a copy of FF7. I used to have it on PC but over the years i've lost 2 of the 4 discs it uses on the PC verson :(
oh and btw, FF9 was a good game. Not the best, but it was good. Kinda made us old-school FF players feel a little sentimental.
All-time best FF games list:
1) Final Fantasy II/IV
2) Final Fantasy VII
3) Final Fantasy IX
4) Final Fantasy VI
5) Final Fantasy V (ironic?)
Squall was just a prick. And Tidus was a moron. They did not have the personality for the "world saving hero" type. Just stupid. And the storylines in FF8 and 10 just didn't gel with me. And a lot of other people. I'm surprised by the support i see for FF8 on here. Since for most people who like the FF series, FF8 is their least favorite out of all of them (including Mystic Quest LOL)

Hehe... see, that was my point exactly... :P

MoldySpore - Watching that intro with those graphics sends chills through my body.. LoL I think that's weird.. But it seriously does..
I would be hard pressed.. not buying a next gen system if they released a remake of FF7 with those graphics.. .. I mean.. wow.. I've seen it before and it still sense chills down my spine..

Watching that intro left me in complete awe just thinking of how sweet a remake of FF7 would be. *keeps fingers crossed*

(minor spoilers for FF9/5/7 may follow, I tried to be as vague as possible though)
I dunno, I kind of liked the exaggerated style. though I'll admit I HATED Quina and Amarant. Ugh, tacked -on characters.
And as for the whole "relating to the characters" thing, I could relate to them, and that actually kind of made me like the games a little less. Well, Cloud anyway. Squall just made me want to hit him on several occasions. (I did NOT like that character, but that's another issue.) I'm a depressive person and yeah, it was kind of interesting to relate to cloud, but I don't play RPGs to play as myself, I play RPGs to well... role-play :P
Mind you, ff7 is still at the top, just because it finally broke the whole formulaicness of RPGs and decided to
a) have an incredibly flawed main character
b) kill off someone for emotional effect and story (FF5 did that too, but that wasn't really released here, plus honestly there wasn't much of a difference pre/post Galuf at least IMO)
c) play a lot of mind games with the gamer
(and Sephy is just cool, too)
FF9 had the more unrealistic style and some really memorable characters, because it delved into the same "coming to terms with reality" kind of dealie that FF7 did... plus I felt that even if it seemed a little more "childish" it had a lot of hidden depth in the characters, especially Vivi, Freya, Zidane and to a lesser extent Garnet/Dagger.
Just my take though.
My top 5:
i) Final Fantasy 7
ii) Final Fantasy 9
iii) Final Fantasy 5 (I love the job system, I really do)
iv) Final fantasy Tactics
v) Final Fantasy 6 (I know this is higher up on most people's lists, but I just couldn't get into it)
8 is somewhere down the bottom... but that's a whole nother rant :P
-
Imo FF8 has real nice plot, but I think the game is too realistic  Just didn't hit on me. And the magic system is just stupid :o 7 is the best, and 6 comes after that.
-
8 sits okay with me. Not the best, not the worst. It has parts that I like, and parts that I don't. All in all, I guess you could say on my scale, 8 is dead center between good and bad, i.e., average.
-
meh i rank it from 7, 8, 2, X...with 9 and 11 at the negatives
-
I bought 11... I've yet to play it.... have never had the money........ :/

If you are speculating about an FF7 remake here is a reference (http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=4582) (page down to halkun's contribution) from a different section of the forums to give an idea of the fact Square considered it however ultimately they didn't have the money.
Any such undertaking has large expenses. The biggest cost would be redoing all the content as I am certain the original data is LONG gone and is pretty much useless in any case.

True. But, at the same time, ALL of the production costs would be poured into updating code, transferring it to the new platform, and making CG sequences and upgrading the 3D models. There would be none of the part that makes the process so long: thinking it up in the first place. The plot, characters, twists and turns, and everything about the game including design are done. So they have a step up. I cant see the game costing anymore to make than a new game from scratch. in fact, i'd be willing to bet it would cost less in the end than a lot of people think.
-
well its basically creating a game form scratch, but bypassing the story and idea creation. .so it should be cheaper to make technically..
-
mmmhmmm I love those instant activation mails...
anyway... how about this fellows?
http://ds.ign.com/articles/656/656107p1.html
if they're making ff3 in 3D for DS so that will lead to conclusion that we will see remake of ff7.
-
There is something all of you need to consider and consider carefully. You are speculating, and you really don't know the industry well enough to speculate.
You should look at the cost of developing for a platform, it's a heck of a lot cheaper to develope for the DS than the PS2 for example (it's a 4:1 ratio). The Xbox is about 9:1.. so think carefully how much it costs to develope for a platform. Most of the time spent is not what you think, the PS2 platform is very specialized and also difficult to develope for. You can't just PORT something with 2 snaps of your fingers LOL.
If the overall game system is similiar in there implementation of (why the heck would they port FF3 or do you mean FFVI? FF3 never left Japan FF3 in the US and Europe was FF6 in Japan). The only changes they need to make are the graphics system, and because of the port to the Playstation for FF6 this means they have the core engine already rewritten, the dialogue doesn't need too much work the only real addition is battle control (IE 3d scenes to match the 2d versions and add 3d models for the characters) the combat system would be the same likely (turn based like FF7). They would need to rewrite the field engine and create field map and models. Field scenes would need to be done, still this is mostly just content creation. It seems there would be a LOT less programing involved, plus the costs would be a HECK of a lot cheaper. Doesn't seem like a bad business proposition to redo the 2nd most popular of the series for the DS :D

yeah, that's true but profit from ff7 would be a lot bigger :]
-
Interesting to see how the slightest hint gets the FFVII fan community into a huge hype again :P Throughout all my years of online research of Final Fantasies online, it seems that FFVII fans will always be ready to accept the slightest possibility of a remake :P
Anyhow, what really is the crux of the matter here? I've been considering the evidence given by the fanbase, the technical difficulties involved, and the actual profitability of a remake...It seems to me that the conditions seem to be pointing in favour of a remake. Why? Well, according to the fanbase, it seems that many people wouldn't mind paying a decent price for the game, so surely, in terms of finance, Square-Enix wouldn't be any worse off for making the game?
Hmm, at first I tried addressing this issue by myself, but either because I'm tired or because my brain is fried from studying, I can't seem to formulate my own answer as of now...so maybe, you guys can help me out a bit by addressing these points?
1) What would Square-Enix get out of a remake, and is this enough for them to want to make one?
2) Would the game really be well-appreciated by the gaming community, considering current trends in the type of games appreciated by the average gamer?
3) Tying in with point 2, is the FFVII fanbase large enough to provide a substantial market?
Obviously it'd be DAMN nice for Square-Enix to go and make a remake, I mean, the mere fact of nostalgia would set many FFVII (or whatever other FF's they decide to remake) fans crying :) However the point remains, as a company that has to consider it's financial issues, would Square-Enix just somma make a remake just to please fans?
Oh, and a bit off topic, but did any of you read about the "empirical evidence" provided by some fans that Aeris died as a result of "rushed development"? Furthermore, do you think, should there be a remake, that she should be made to come back in the game in about disc 3, something along the lines of "...similar to Sephiroth, I floated around the lifestream, gathering knowledge. When I finally understood what my purpose was, I knew I couldn't return to the lifestream yet, so I came back..." Wouldn't that be cool :)
But I agree with Solis, he's totally right, FFVII was a very complex and innovative game in terms of characters. For once you had the hero-type character (cloud) who was actually a real failure and SCARED (after the temple of ancients on disc one when he doesn't wanna face sephiroth and poops his pants). Then you had Aeris, a main character, dying, and never coming back...And yes, Sephiroth IS cool :P (Especially in FFVII:AC)
So would it detract from the value of the game should Aeris be resurrected? Heh...what do you guys think.
