Title: Difference?
Post by: chris99 on 2005-08-01 16:43:42
Are MP3s the exact same quality as Playstation quality or are MP3s better quality or what? 'Cause I might just get the PSX version of FF7 if it is good enough. :P Also in the PSX version does One Winged Angel get vocals?

AFAIK, PSX version have better sound quality, but the sound itself is generated in real-time (MIDI, not an MP3). If you have good MIDI-device on your PC, it could sounds nearly as good, as on PSX (if...).

As for the second question... dunno :)

Just wondering, as FF8 is for the same console, and can have voices (Eyes on Me, Liberi Fatali)

Yes, FF7 for PSX has the OWA vocals.

That settles it. I'll shell out the £15 for FF7 (PSX)

I can't remember if the normal midis have it but loading the soundfont provided allows you to get the vocals.

You could also use FFmusic to make FF7PC play mp3s, meaning you could just obtain the OST and it would sound identical, or get some nice remixes and make it sound even better. But until Ficedula fixed the looping of mp3s in that program (which seems like, never), you`d be content with only hearing it once... Even then I suppose you would have to tinker around to make it loop at the right moment, which would be time-consuming.

And naturally you would get vocals this way.

I tried to patch it but it was too complicated, and nothing was working, so I thought 'screw it'.

If you load lb2.sb2 (at least I think that's what the soundfont was called) into a Sblive Soundfont bank....and configure FF7PC to use Soundfonts.... (I've forgotten how...something to dow with General MIDI for the bottom slection and I think A or B for the top) you'll hear the vocals. But every other song in the game will be messed up. To help with that, you load the FF7.sb2 and then the lb2 on top of it. The music will still be messed up in places....but, not as bad as using the lb2 alone.

But...you need a Creative Soundcard to do it.
