Title: Final Fantasy VII on Win XP questions
Post by: meude on 2005-08-06 21:46:00
hi, im going to play the game on a Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 256MB, latest drivers. here r some questions:
* 1.02 patch, is it an official patch? what does it make exactly? is it better to install it in any case or not?
* im used to play games by Alcohol mounted images. is there any disk swapping problem with this game? does ALT+TAB works?
* the chocobo patch, is it better to install it in any case or not?
ciao

ALT-TAB causes an error when starting battles.

Unless you are using Windows 95 or 98 you will recive crashes whenever you enter a chocobo race if the patch is not applied.

1.02 patch is the only official patch from Eidos. What it does, is allow Direct3d Hardware rendering from your video card, instead of software rendering in which the CPU renders it all (very laggy when using software rendering). If you are running windows 2k/xp you'll need to apply the chocobo patch, or the game will crash every time. You might experience a common problem with newer hardware/drivers commonly known around here as the "Gridline effect" or grid effect whichever you prefer. So go to this thread and read my bottom post, and also read the very first page of that thread as it has a lot of useful info: http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=2670&start=120

r u sure patch 1.02 is official? in the official FAQs site: http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/CustomerSupport/FaqSearchResults.jsp?problemType=-9&searchText=search&game=79&platform=3
it is not present. what is the difference between this patch and the official patches: "nVidia Riva 128 and 128ZX patch" and "nVidia Riva TNT patch"?

alt tab out, mount new disc, save game, exit, load game.

ok, but in this way i have to know when the game asks for the next disk, so that i can save the game before... isnt there really any other method to play by Alcohol mounted images?

It'll ask you to change disk and then to save a game. No battles involved... Just change a disk, save game, exit game and load it.

The Riva TNT patch is the 1.02 patch.  I see it listed here (http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/CustomerSupport/FaqSearchResults.jsp?problemType=13&searchText=&game=79&platform=3).

thank u for the explanation. do u think it is necessarily to install even the "nVidia Riva 128 and 128ZX patch"? if yes, before or after the "nVidia Riva TNT patch"?

When you ALT-Tab out of the game, and then go back in, the game eventually glitches when you enter a battle.

No, only the TNT patch is necessary.  And, only if you can't get the game to run in Direct3D without it.
