Title: Final Fantasy VII: Orchestral SoundFont (Pre-release)
Post by: kkcazajeg on 2005-08-29 18:16:15
You can download the soundfont here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=342KAS8E) (link down).
It hasn't been completed yet because there are still a lot of errors in the midis. I found out how to fix the problem with the missing instruments after the first loop but was too lazy to examine all of the files right now. There will be another release when I've got more time to complete the patch, this is more like a teaser.

Included songs are:

"Main Theme of FINAL FANTASY VII" (FINAL FANTASY VII Reunion Tracks) --> Overworld map
"Main Theme of FINAL FANTASY VII" (FINAL FANTASY VII Reunion Tracks) --> Cloud's memory (second part)
"Fight On!" (THE BLACK MAGES) --> Boss battle
"Aerith's Theme" (Piano Collections FINAL FANTASY VII) --> Replaced earis.mid
"One-Winged Angel" (FINAL FANTASY VII Reunion Tracks) --> Final Battle

Installation:
----------------

Note: You need an application to extract the contents of the RAR-archive. WinRAR (http://www.winrar.com), for example.

Step 1 - To reduce the downloading time of the archive I compressed the soundfont.
You'll need sfArk (http://www.melodymachine.com/sfark.htm) to decompress it. Follow the
            instructions of the setup file.

Step 2 - Rename the old "awe.lgp" (for example "awe_old.lgp") in the "midi" folder
of your "FINAL FANTASY VII" path, in case you fuck the patch up entirely. It should be
            "C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\data\midi".
Then extract the file "awe.lgp" from the archive to this path.

   Step 3 - Extract the file "FF7OP.sfArk" to "C:\"

Step 4 - Open sfArk. Click on "File", then on "Open". Choose the
previously extracted file "FF7OP.sfArk". Click on the red start button.
sfArk will decompress the soundfont now. This may take some
time. As soon as the decompressing process is finished you can close the application.

Step 5 - "FF7OP.sfArk" can be deleted. "C:\" now has a new file called "ff7.sf2".
You have to cut and paste it in the folder
            "C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\data\midi\sf2".
Once again, you will have to rename the old file before if you're a complete coward.

Step 6 - Open the Creative configuration program "AudioHQ". Double click on the
"Soundfont" icon and delete the whole bank stack. Choose the right page
called "Options" and set the memory to more than 70 MB. Get back to the
bank stack menu and choose slot "001". Click "Load" and take "ff7.sf2"
from the "sf2" folder of your "FINAL FANTASY VII" path. You can close the
            soundfont window now.

Step 7 - Open "EAX-environment" and choose "Concert Hall" (more reverb) or "Theatre"
(less reverb) depending on what you like.
            Close the "EAX-environment" and "AudioHQ".
Note: If you want to hear other media without reverb you will have to set
environment back to "No effects" after playing FINAL FANTASY VII.
But you have to activate one of the settings while playing the game.
Otherwise, the midi files won't have the slightest bit of reverb.

Step 8 - Go to your "FINAL FANTASY VII" path and start the configuration program
"ff7config.exe". Click on the right page "MIDI" and set the MIDI driver to
Synth A (the description may vary depending on your soundcard - for me it was
"SB Live! Synth A"). Choose "Soundfont MIDI (Creative AWE32/AWE64)"
as MIDI data. Do not click on the test button, just save the configuration
            by hitting the "OK"-button.

I couldn't try your soundfont because the sfark link is broken.
I'm looking for it in the web now...

Just copy-pasted the text from the readme.txt and didn't set URL tags. The message board created the link automatically. Well, fixed now.
