It doesn't even seem to crash, it just hangs at a black screen. I have the reunion patch on incase anyones wondering, but I'm not sure if thats the cause.
------------------------------Edit-------------------------------------------------------
Turns out my scratched disk came back to haunt me, the opening FMV (Explode) didn't work, it just sort of waited and hoped that it started as it never did my screen just stayed black. I'm going to copy my Movies to my HD to clear up the problem.

Can you "skip" that black screen with [OK]?I have the reunion patch on incase anyones wondering, but I'm not sure if thats the cause.
Probably not...
And you need to check "eidoslogo.avi" file.

.
Yes, but now it seems to not matter, I can start a new game but the same thing happens with all movies.

I can see all the movies, but they wont play in-game.

Problem with TM2.0 codec. If installing it from Install CD and upside-down patch didn't work, you'll have to uninstall some of the codecs first.
-
I can watch the movies out side of the game easily, but I'm oging to take your advice and wipe my comp soon.
-
You don't have to wipe your system (shouldn't anyway). Just stick in the install disk, and reinstall the video player thing. If that doesn't work, just reinstall FF7 in the same directory as you have it now, and the movies should play in game.

unistalling all additional codecs sometimes helps and then installing the duck codec first

i am also getting this same problem. i start the game and its black. i press enter and i get the new game or continue options. i press new game and its black and stays black. i installed 1.02 patch, running nvidia tnt mode, installed chocobo patch, tried running under different compatibility, reinstalled like 5 times and also installed the upside down patch. i can run movies outside game but apparently not inside. any help would be appreciated

As I said, you have to... oh well... just read my previous post...
-
i dont quite understand what u mean with the TM2.0 codec. i uninstalled all codecs that didn't relate to the game such as divx and stuff like that. what do i do then?
-
Then you...
Install the TrueMotion2.0 codec from Install CD ("Install Movie Player"). If it still doesn't work, you have to install Upside-down movie patch (http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=2670&highlight=upside+down). Should work.
-
Should, but it wont, at least not for me.
-
I had the same problem, but then I re-installed, and checked the "Directx 5.0"(or what was it, can't remember..) option from install menu, then it started working ;)

@Arsop: DirectShow? :roll:
@Relf: So you uninstalled all the codecs, installed the TM2.0 and it still doesn't work? When I was getting my old computer to work with FF7, I have had the same symptoms. Movies were playing in WMP but not in-game. Reinstalling the codecs actually worked.

Something like that :P I just remembered it was directx, not sure tough.
