Title: I hate to ask... crashing problem. Help please?
Post by: Kai_Hawatari on 2005-09-22 06:01:55
As frequent as this must be on this forum...

FF7 is crashing on my PC.

Everything runs normally, except that about 1 in ever 8 battles crashes just before the screen goes swirld (I get a must-close error, not just a hang-up).

I have the basic install and the v1.02 patch. I'm running in Nvidia mode w/ TNT (not RIVA, gives me those blocks in-game, even w/o FSAA)

Pentium D 2.8gHz (OCed to 3.22gHz)
1gb Corsair RAM
MSI Geforce 6600GT
Windows XP
Latest Drivers (as far as I'm aware)

At the moment I have hi-res mod and hi-res cloud, and the patch that lets you save anywhere (because I have to save frequently cuz it crashes so often) on at the moment, but I've played the game without them, and it still crashes.

Gypt doesn't seem to help (though it did get me past a point previously - thanks to whoever made it ^_^).

Any suggestions?

What about Win98 compatibility mode? Doesn't work?

It didn't work, because it can only help you with CosmoCanyon/Gondola Crash.

I though that I put enough "who-made-this-program" into the code. Guess I was wrong. Another bug to work out...
And now seriously: I'm glad that it was of use for you.

Have you tried without any patches?

There may have been an error is applying them :)

That's odd, Gypt got me through the post-Rockettown crash as well... Oh well.

I suspected it was you, dziugo, but was too lazy to check. Anyway, thanks for a very useful program ^_^

I'll try compatibility mode, that's one thing I haven't tried yet, thanks for the suggestion!

Is this at all a common problem? It seems weird that it's only every once in a while (though it seems far more frequently now).

Come to think of it, it *might* have started since using the hi-res mod, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the help!

This is happening to me, too, pretty much at random.  I've got the latest hi-res, Reunion, and other multipatch stuff applied, but not the save-anywhere.
