Title: Could you look at this for me...
Post by: DesolationJones on 2005-10-10 17:15:14
I recently bought FF VII for the PC, but I hardly ever play games on the PC so I'm not to familiar with all this tweaking this game clearly has to undergo before play.
But i was wondering, this is what my game looks like:

I was wondering what patch exacly i need to get better graphics? (that is possible, isn't it?)

Thanks for the help (hopefully)

No, you cannot 'improve' the graphics for the battle models. you can however switch out the feild models with the battle models...

I think this is what you are looking for:
Reunion Patch (http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=4045)

RP: I think he's complaining about the resolution, not about the model...

Jones:
1st.: Scale down your avatar. Maximum size allowed here is 100x100 and 15kb (or even 10kb?)

2nd: That's a weird resolution... 962x660
How did you do that? FF7 runs only 320x240 and 640x480 by default...

3rd: Moved to Game-Tweaking

looks liek hes also using software rendering mode.

you need to DL the 1.02 patch (http://www.ff7-universe.com/Downloads/ff7_102.zip) and see if you can get hardware compatability wokring.  Refer to the faq if you ahve futher issues, then ask here =)

To avoid confusion: When I took the screenshot, i had to make the image bigger, the game doesn't look like that (weird sized i mean).
But the thing I am complaining about is mainly those blocks of pixle (or whatever this is called).
It's like the game is out of focus or something
And i read that the graphics were made better on the PC version, but so far my PSX copy looks much better.

I'll try that reunion patch.

Thanks for the help (and sorry about the avatar)

*Edit*
Ok I figured this out, I didn't apply the Reunion Patch (yet anyway) but the graphics became much better after I changed the "Display Resolution" from 320x240 to 640x480.
This was probably too obvious for you to figure out, sorry for the trouble  :D

They game just runs at 640x480. Internally, it is even only running at 320x240. There isn't much you can do, except run the high res patch, but that will require your monitor/video card both support reslutions of either 1280x1024, or 1280x960.

Aliasing (the stair stepping you see around the edges of geometry) will be less of an issue at those resolutions, but if it is the case, I believe you can even run anti-aliasing (blurring of stair stepping) with the high res patch.

Looks like Software mode to me.

To get the game looking better, you need to get Hardware mode working. And you can only do that if you have a Nvidia card. And only if the 8bit pallet test says FAIL.

If you have those two things.....then you can use the Riva TNT patch (found at Eidos Support) and just use that patch as the readme file instructs.

As soon as you check Nvidia and TNT, the pulldown menu should have a new option for Hardware mode. I know that the 77.77 drivers work on a 6600GT.... but that's the only card and driver I can confirm, personally.
