Title: FF7Music - mixing MP3s and PSFs?
Post by: TerakRall on 2005-10-12 18:07:57
I was wondering if there was any way in FF7Music to use MP3s for some songs (i.e. the songs that were orchestrated on Reunion Tracks, some of the piano versions and some Black Mages music) and then use miniPSFs for the rest?  As far as I can find, you can only use one or the other...

BTW, has anyone heard the fantastic remixed opening movie music from the Advent Children soundtrack?  Wish I had the know-how to tack that onto the opening movie in-game...

Not at this time.  You have to choose one file format to use.

Darn.  I'm in the same situation as TerakRall.  I got some songs from the Advent Children soundtrack to work, but I got to choose either mp3 or psf.  Is there any program to convert either format mp3 to psf or vice versa so I could achieve final fantasy audio bliss? :D

Update

Yup I think I found the answer to my own question  :D
go here  http://www.neillcorlett.com/psf/faq.html
It's the answer to question 13, just use good ol' Winamp.  And it's in the same location for winamp 5.

yea me too,
today i went and renamed all my ost mp3s so i could use them along side my reunion tracks and also Advent Children soundtracks simply because you cannot mix and match psf and mp3s.
Would also be nice to have the ability to randomly pickup a new set of mp3son every run of ff7

This wouldn't be too hard to do with a batch file and maybe a little simple programming.  :-P
(You could do it outside of FF7Music.)

It would be hard to convert MP3s to psf, but the other way around isn't so diffucult. You can use Microsoft Movie Maker (SP1) to record whatever is playing on your computer at the moment into any format (except midi), also Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) is and excellent program, as well as winamp and goldwave...

So ya, take your pick, I reccomend Audacity myself...

Well I have achieved FF7 audio nirvana!  I converted all the psf files from the playstation pack to wav files using winamp.  Then just converted the wav to mp3 using exact audio copy with the lame encoder.  Just made a new profile under FF7music that has Advent Children tracks, some remixes from ocremix.org, and the rest are high quality mp3s of the ps originals.  I got a tip to mute the midi output so none would leak through.  It has never been an issue, but hey I no longer here those ugly midi files.  Another tip, if you make uber l33t quality mp3s you might want to turn the master volume down a little in FF7music.  I have found they could get a little loud and drown out the sound effects, especially when fighting.  This time around FF7 is a lot different.  Updated hi-res graphics and high quality surround sound, it sure beats the 640x480 mode and two speaker midi output it ran when I first played it many years ago. :)

What are you all doing to counter the "MP3s DO NOT LOOP IN FF7MUSIC" thing? Making MP3s that are like 30 minutes long each?
