Title: New Sound Idea
Post by: Mat2rue on 2005-10-23 17:22:21
I thought of something intersting to play as the game music the FF7 - AC soundtrack. It have all (or most) of the game music. What about this idea. Good Or Bad ?

FF7 Music should be able to do that since it can play MP3s.

Way ahead of you! I already put Fighting, Still More Fighting (AC Remix), One Winged Angel (AC Remix) and JENOVA(AC Remix) all for the FF7 game. Ive extended each song 4 times their length so they wont loop while the songs are going. Its really cool too!

Still More Fighting (AC) is not a remix, I dont even think I recognise one bit from the original FF7 track. but the old track needs working as it sounds too synthetic

EDIT: how did you extend their length?

Well Link19 is right about the Still More Fighting song from the AC soundtrack being a remix. The track title listed is "Sara ni tatakau monotachi", which roughly translated means, "Again the people fight."  It is a remix of the original.  If you listen closely to the distorted guitar riff, it is the original strings melody with a new hard feel.  I have incorporated all the tracks Link19 mentioned, but went a step further with both Tifa's and Aeris's theme music and a couple of tracks from ocremix.org.  Thanks again ficedula for such a great addon with FF7music, especially with the improved mp3 support!  :D  *have attained final fantasy audio nirvana*

there are also some good tracks from FF7 reunion collection (Aeris orchestral and FF7 world map orchestral are a couple of examples) and also FF7 Piano Collection has some good renditions of J-E-N-O-V-A, Fighting (as in AC), Tifa (again used in AC), Rufus welcoming celebration, Ahead on our way, Aeris (of course), world map theme, Gold saucer, Fiddle de chocobo, Farm boy, decendant of the Shinobi and maybe a couple more.

Just to fill the gap where they missed some tunes out

EDIT: which remixes would you recommend.

Well any recommendations I would make should be taken with a grain of salt.  Some of the remixes I heard from ocremix.org were good, if you were just listening for enjoyment.  What I did, I choose remixed songs that the originals never really stood out for me.  For the most part I kept the classics the same, just using the piano collections like you stated, but some remixes from the site really set a different mood for the game playing it this time around.  There is a track remixed for Buried in the Snow called Light and Flakey.  It's an alright track, but a little too busy I think for the game.  I don't  like it to sound like cloud and friends are using mind altering substances at a rave. :)  The track "On that day 5yrs ago" remixed by russel cox is a great replacement for the games original.  Spitting image of the original, simple, but with great sound quality. The remix to "Anxious Hearts" titled "Hearts Anxiety" by Ceracryst, I put that in the game.  Completely different, this trance/hip hop beat really changed the feel at parts of the game.  Gave that feeling of a lonesome journey, one that Cloud seems to be on throughout the story.  I cut the track before it got all fast at the end and just looped the slow intro.  Anyways I better quit, I'm starting to sound like a music critic. :P

I too have integrated some remixed songs with the game.  I'm still hoping to use original and analogous songs in tandem, hopefully with a sort of playlist someday.  I have about six songs I'd prefer to use interchangeably during battles.

nl: exactly what I would like to have.
Sort of a selection of items that can be used to substitute a certain in game midi. of course selected at random.

So for bat.mid I would have the piano version, the ost version and maybe a remixed version.
The same for JENOVA, one winged angel, and Still more fighting.

Other than stuff mentioned The first black mages album has fantastic versions of Jenova and "Still More Fighting". Also FF9 has a sligtly reworked of "Rufus's Welcoming" which is in the PSFs.

The piano collection is fantastic. Seiji Honda is great pianist and it brings out the emotion in the music. It's also just had a fresh pressing so it is available ever so slightly cheaper than before. I don't  use some of the tracks, Jenova I prefer the black mages version and I take the three reunion tracks in prefrence of the paino versions (I reuse the piano version of arith's theme for "flowers blooming in the church" though). Also I don't find the piano version of "gold saucer" or "rufus's welcoming" work in game.

I can't really comment on AC though because my copy of the soundtrack has yet to show up.

All of the CDs can be tracked down and other than the AC soundtrack they are available on iTunes.

If this doesn't satisfy anyone's final fantasy music fix, then they need some quality time on their psychiatrist's couch  :P

EDIT

otaku.co.uk seemed to have the best price on the AC soundtrack but that is the first thing I've ordered from them in nearly a decade so can't really say how great they are. Usually I find their prices a little on the high side but they are UK based.

Amazon.com carry some but prices aren't great, theres postage on top and not been that impressed with them in the past.

Gamemusic.com has good prices, I haven't ordered from them but I heard good things about them from people I trust.

My new tracks are as follows

Still More Fighting = Still more fighting (AC Remix)
Fighting = Fighting (Piano Collections)
JENOVA = (JENOVA AC Remix)
One Winged Angel = (One Winged Angel AC Mix)

On a side note, the AC Remix of OWA goes near PERFECT with the battle. The whole rock part in the middle starts off almost exactly when Sephy casts the first Super Nova.

I ONLY chaged these when its corresponding times come.

When the weapon comes out of the water after the Ancient Forrest scene

Hurry Faster = Divinity I and II put together

It just sounds SOOO great when the weapon is coming out. You guys should try it.

The way I "extended" the songs from 3 min to almost 20 minutes so it wont loop, I used a program called GoldWave. That program works miracles in editing music :D

I've noticed that Fair Verona 'fits' with One Winged Angel.  Of course, it isn't really a surprise, but...

I assume like before you copy and paste sections of the music manually?

Yes, by just editing the ff7music.ini. It actually took me awhile to figure it out, but i did it. Again, having Divinity I and II while the weapon comes out makes it feel really nice!

i am lost link19, do mean mean you joined the two mp3s together using goldwave or hooked them together with an entry into the ff7music.ini?

Sorry to confuse you! Scratch that about the editing about the .ini file. Yes, I did copy and paste portions of the songs so it would sound like its looping forever. Some songs were a lil hard to do since i want it to be perfect. But hey, nothing is perfect......well except this game of course.
