Hi all,
Just did my first ever experiment with multi-track recording...I'm a cello player, and decided to try and do a remix of Anxious Heart, so I arranged it for 6 cellos and recorded each track one by one. As I said, it's my first time doing multi-track, so there are bound to be some things wrong with it, but I wanted to share it with you guys anyway, especially with the new FF7Music release that lets you mix MP3s and PSFs.
Enjoy!

I like it...... Its very well arranged.... Cellos are my favourite string instrument... odd since I'm a violin player :P
-
This is fantastic! I'm glad you posted a remix that you played yourself instead of letting a computer play it. :-P
-
this is great. this is definately replacing my original one!
you've got talent.

Thanks all for the kind words...I've been thinking of doing either "On That day, 5 Years Ago" or "Cid's Theme" in the same manner...any reccomendations for either of those or maybe a different song?
-
That is absolutely stunning - great job. The Cello gives a whole different feel to the song after around the 26 second point. And the entire opening seems like it was just made for that Cello o' yours. Beautiful!
As for what you could tackle next... Hmm.. while those two you've suggested would be very interesting through your string-ability, I think you'd be capable of doing some absolutely lovely versions of say, the Cosmo Canyon Theme, or 'Life Stream' (which is easily one of my favourite songs on the OST for some reason or another).
Keep up the great work!

Magnificent! 8)
Can't wait to hear what else you've got in mind! :D
-
DUUUUUDE! Sweet! Cellos rock man! :D
-
Yo-yo Ma couldn't have done it any better. Great job!

Hope you don't mind the double posting, but I'd like to say that even in the 1:45 mins it took to listen to this, that you aren't just playing the notes, you're expressing them. I dunno, maybe I'm all talk! but I've always been in love with the Cello, even though I can't play it myself... I play guitar! but that's different... Nice work, did you record this in your own home? (Like me with a cheap-o microphone  lol )
-
Thank you all for the very kind words.
Yes, this was recorded in my apartment with a $10 microphone - wish I had decent recording equipment!
I'm almost done with a rendition of Cid's Theme that I hope to post soon - the percussion is of course still synthesized (I don't own a snare drum :P ), but everything else is cello.
-
That sounds great, coming from a tuba/trombone player, i cant imagine trying to mix all the complex parts. Definatly some slightly off key parts (hard to catch), but overall, excellent.
-
Nice... can't wait to hear more!

I'm actually quite a big fan of fan-remixed music - there are just so many talents out there showing how game music can be expressed and altered in many ways ^_^ And this here... Wow.. This is quite a great take on this soundtrack... good job! Although maybe at around the 1:33, the cellos came in too loud and sudden for my liking. And you could have put more emphasis on that melodic line at 1:14. But maybe that's just me. And I want to say that again that you've put quite some effort in recording those cello parts despite having a cheap mic and all - it's really great!
I think that if you want to grow more and hone your remixing skills and talents, I truly recommend that you submit your work to www.vgmix.com. There are tons of people there who know their stuff and they can give feedback on what you've submitted ^_^

Thank you for sharing this work with us! Have I mentioned that the cello is one of my favorite instruments? Very nicely done, though I too think the sound volume could use a little normalization around 1:30... :)
Hmm, if we get more people talented in the creative ways like this, presenting their work, it could really add more color to the forums. 8)

I dunno if I could will myself to arrange a piece and record it 5 different times for each part :\ I can play a lot of pieces of songs, but i do that randomly heh. Do dodo odododod
-
impressive...
you're good... good...
heheh... maybe you could team up with some people and make great music...

After MANY hours of hard work, I give you Cid's Theme:
http://members.aol.com/ff7square/cidstheme.mp3
I encountered two problems while doing this - first, I couldn't seem to get the two halves of the song to mesh well (the start of the second half, with the cello going into the upper register, comes in with kind of a bang), and it doesn't seem like the MP3 will loop well.
C'est la vie...I decided that any further work would be pointless at this point :P
Let me know what you think!
Edit: Listening to it again and there are some OBVIOUS out of tune notes...sorry!
-
Good work. Could use some polish, but the arrangement is quite nice. :-)
-
Very nice, don't be discouraged, 'cause you're cool like that! 8) 'Kay?

This one is more silvery than the original or other versions (Undersea Palace) I've heard. It definitely grows on you with additional listens.

nice work :D keep it upp

sound like this songs was made for the cello. I especially like the begning.
However, there are indeed some out of place notes and something doesn,t feel right at some points. But great job nonetheless. Definately a good listen.

Well it is the "Cello Remix" :P
-
Er yes.. While it is true that some sections did go off-tune but kudos to you for your effort though.. Either way, if you were to want to fix up this arrangement, the main way would be to re-record the cello parts? That's what I think ^^
