Well it seems that FFMpeg (http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/index.php) has added support to FF7PC's video format. (I know, it's old news, but thought I would bring it to everyone's attention.) Do now if you want to make your own open source FF7 engine that encludes the PC movies, or just add how it works to Gears, go ahead and download the source.
I think it's cool...

So we might see a DUCK codec available sometime (like Xvid Indeo X264 etc)

well, it *IS* available.
The source is right there.

you mean just compile it.
How does this effect FF7 by the way.
This mean we can recompile or make new videos?

It means you can view the video's without having to find the DUCK video codec for the AVI files used in FF7. Or put in other terms, you can legally make an open source video decoder that can play the FF7 video files distributed with the game.
Or you could make new videos for the game too I suppose as well :D

I suppose it doesnt cover encoding?
Would be nice, since finding the encoder for Duck is not possible (I think).
