Title: FF8 8 bit pallete textures
Post by: ChaosControl on 2006-03-06 13:12:10
Can someone show me a screen with and without 8 bit pallete textures enable on FF8.

I wanne see if it's worth finding a way to enable 8 bit pallete textures but if it doesnt do any significant changes i wont.

Thanks

I think there is no difference at all. I remember when I last tested FF7 in my old computer. It was equiped with a GF2MX and by that time the Detonators worked fine with 8-bit palleted textures. It simply looked the same as usual. The only diference was that the texture filtering settings (antisotropic) were applied to backgrounds too (but I've got serious doubts it was actually releated with the fact of using 8-bit palletted textures).

Well, there IS a difference, when you haven't enabled 8 Bit Tesxtures in FF8.
Some things got Black Borders without 8 Bit textures (For me, don't know if there's a patch for this)

Have you tried it with 8-bit textures?
The black borders are caused by the background filtering, they shouldn't show up in software rendering mode or if you turn the background filtering off (using the FF8 Configurator).

Haha. I would argue that nothing would look better on the PSX because Sony pushed the move to 3D too early OR didn't spend enough time developing 3D before releasing that thing. (Large amount of thoughts would go here)

Anyway - chaoscontrol - I hope you can get your world map problem solved.
