I saw your post on GameDev.net, and have Final Fantasy VII on the PS.

I'm also learning C++ right now, havn't hit graphics though yet.

Read the FAQ. It helps get you started. You should download the "gears" pdf first and grab a copy of Q-Gears from SVN.
