Title: Forgotten City movie problem...(update)
Post by: Laeglis on 2006-07-18 03:52:35
Heya.  I've been having a problem with a movie not playing repeatedly and i've tried everything i can think of so far with no luck.

In the Forgotten City after you give Bugen the ancients key, he places it in the music box, the pillar drops, the waterfall is made and he asks you to go in and take a look.  Well, as soon as the movie of areis praying and white materia falling is supposed to play, all i am getting is a black screen.  I dont know why but the movie simply refuses to play during the game.  It plays just fine when accessed directly from the CD.

Very confused and frustrated about this, any help would be simply awesome :)

Have you tried the "Play FMVs off your hard drive trick"?  If not check it out at EmperorSteele's awesome site.

Link (http://ff7-universe.com/)

Check at the bottom of the Downloads section under Documentation.

If the video file doesn't play then you can try a google search for the FF7 fmvs for download.  A few sites come to mind, they state you must own the ip before downloading, but I'm not sure if it's in violation of the rules here for me to tell the site's name.  Just to be safe, when in doubt Google is your friend.

I made .ISO copies of the CD's and run FF7 from my hard drive using a CD emulator tool.  It runs identically to when its run from the CD's.  Sadly, i still have the exact same problems.

Read the documentation that I have provided you.  You will take the FMVs from the CDs or ISOs you have and place them in your install directory of FF7.  Then you just do a quick registry tweak and they will actually play from your hard drive, not an emulated cd/dvd drive.  The movies load faster and run smoother using this method. (for me at least)

Any chance i could send my save game to someone and have them get me past this part?
Would be very appreciated.

If you upload it, I can do it for you.

EDIT: it's taking a little longer than expected, but It will be done within 45 minutes or so.

EDIT: Same thing happened to me...
It must be that you hacked your file.
That must have messed it up somehow.

Well, despite Knives' best efforts, he had the same problems i did :(

Any other thoughts out there?

edit::  i've searched the web countless times and i just cant seem to find any save games even remotely close to the spot i'm on :(
If anyone has a save near here, and could upload it or e-mail it to me, that would be awesome.

well here's the thing for me. i thought it froze too. gave it a few seconds, maybe even minutes, and i tabbed back into it. (i have windowed mode). the graphics were pretty laggy too and i have a 8500GT so it must be the game's fault!
