Well I have tried multiple things to get the high res patch (and yes, my screen supports 1280x1024) and FSAA working, but I keep getting some annoying problems. I installed the v1.02 patch so I could use the Nvidia+TNT thing, but as soon as I use it, it doesn't seem to let the 8-bit textures pass...or fail. It just....well, it does nothing. I have the latest Nvidia drivers, and I also tried turning off 8-bit textures in RivaTuner. Here is what the FF7config shows, and how it looks ingame:

As you can see, 3d models are ok, the sprites are garbled (I can live with that, although all text is grayed-out), but the background is completely black.
My specs are:
Nvidia 7800GT 256-mb
Athlon 64 3800+ X2
2 gig of RAM
If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it.

................
wait
1280 by 1024?
No no NO! Use the NORMAL patch first (1280x960) , THEN use the 1280x1024 on top of that ONLY if you have a widescreen display!

Ermm I'm sorry, maybe I wasn't clear, I did first use the 960 patch, and than the 1024 patch. It just keeps coming up with the black background.

Same thing here.
Just reinstall the game and do not apply the resolution patch.

...huh.
Ok, uhm, try rolling BACK your drivers to the 88.x.x series. Make sure you remove the newer drivers from your system first before isntalling older ones. I mean, unless your new card's archetecture completly does not support ff7s bgs at all.. well..
hmm..
i see you're using the npc recosntruction patch, too. What ya gotta do is install the high-res patch first. I don't think the npc patch does anything to teh exe, but try getting the game working with no patches first, then 1.02, then high-res. Then anything of Dzuigo's if you use it (battle swirl fix, tifa limit cheat, etc), then the npc patch. So uninstall the game and start from scratch, applying patches in the order i mentioned.

I tried it with 88.x drivers before, didn't work, that's why I thought I should try updating. But I guess I will try applying the patches in the order you just said, maybe that will work. By the way, I don't use the NPC patch, it didn't work for me, I used the Reunion patch.

Okay. make sure you check the status of the game before applying any patches. you know, try to get it to play and all that. If plain old 1.02 won't work, then it'll be pretty obvious that your video card is the culprit =(
