I noticed there hasn't been a topic about guitars here, ever ( I think )
So ill start one!
Do you play the guitar? What setup do you have?
I just bought myself a Epiphone Gibson SG in black
(http://i2.ebayimg.com/04/i/07/c0/a9/d7_1.JPG)
That exact one in fact.
Now to the topic at hand. I want to mod my guitar to a higher standard to what I have at the moment.
For cosmetics, im thkning about getting the Official Gibson SG dials for the volume and tone settings, and getting a silver (possibly metal) scratchplate, custom made if I have to.
for the actual guitar itself, im thinking of buying some Zakk Wylde signature custom EMG humbuckers, and possibly a chrome vibrato fitting to replace the current non-vibrato setup.
Assuming you understood what I just said, and it hasnt gone over your head, what are your thoughts on my proposed ideas? Furthermore, has anyone had any experience with this themselfs, and have a favourite online shop they use?
Thanks
Ray

I play a Ernie Ball john Petrucci guitar 7 string, fully loaded, in red pearlburst, through a gt6 into an acoustic amp. It sounds ace with the piezo as well!
I've done a bit of guitar modding before, on an old acoustic, did up the frets and action, but unfortunately due to a little accident I had to replace the bridge, which didn't go well, some idiot had super glued the bridge to the wood!
Have you had any experience with modding guitars before?

First off.
I envy you. lots. I would give anying for a JP MM 7 String >_<
secondly, nah, i've never actually modded a guitar before.
I've been told getting a vibrato system onto an SG is going to be hard, if not impossible.... is this true?

I've got a 6-string Dimebag Darrell "The Razorback Shards" with a rosewood fingerboard, Mahogany body and dnck, Dimebag Traction knobs, and a Dimebucker Treble pickup (bridge position that is).

The exact same one as you can see in the picture.
It cost me TOO much.

How about putting in some DiMarzio's? Virtual PAF neck and bridge. Or, if they aren't hot enough for you, you could use a Super Distortion and a Super 2. They are all passive. Check out their website: http://www.dimarzio.com/
Also, put in some better tuners. Grovers come to mind. I've heard about problems with some, though.
Definitely put new strings on it if you haven't.
As for vibrato, that isn't really a vibrato guitar.
Here is my equipment:
Epiphone Special II
Vintage Sunburst
Stock
Earnie Ball 10s
Epiphone Les Paul Classic
Faded Cherry
Came With Grover Tuners (I have a feeling those weren't stock)
Stock
Earnie Ball 9s
I miss my Epiphone Dot; I returned it because it had a finish defect.
My amps are an Epiphone Studio 10 (it came with my one guitar) and a tube amp I built myself. It's like a Champ but with a different power tube.

I inhereted a Fender Stratocaster with a small 2-channel Marshall so decided to learn how to play..
So far one year has past and I don't see myself at your level by far but for modding;
I have an acoustic painted for my g/f (pics soon).

I forgot to mention straplocks.

Since you guys seem to know your stuff, could anyone here recomend me a good 7 string classical guitar, either acoustic or electro acoustic, steal strung,

:?
If you play a John Petrucci 7-String with piezos, why the heck do you need another 7-string?

Because steel strung guitars feel different. And plus, so far, acousitc night wise, I kinda do feel stupid dragging my electric down :P. Though I have got alot of comments to how most people think it is an acoustic in disguise!

I don't think they make 7 string classical guitars, but you should be able to find some standard acoustic or acoustic/electric ones (which I am still not sure exist). You might have to built it yourself.
If Ovation made one, I would go with that.
