currently, i'm enjoying ff7 on my pc...all the help on these forums have made the experience that much better.

i tried to get ff8 to work, but the nvidia black box bug has got me.  so i decided to cave in and buy a playstation 2.

i have 2 questions if you guys can help me.

first, if i get my hands on ff8 and 9 on ebay or something for psx, can i play it on a PS2?  i mean, is it fully compatible?  unlike the problems the PC port has with newer hardware...

and secondly, i don't have a TV since i don't watch TV at all.  what i do have is a really nice monitor and a ati theatre 550 pro tv card.  can i just plug in the ps2 via the inputs on the tv card and play ps2 off my computer?  is that feasible?

Yes, it's fully compatible, you only need a PSX memory card. If your tv card has a RCA video-in then it shouldn't be too much of problem to use a monitor instead of a regular TV, but the image will be smaller and will probably look worse (yes, worse :)).

If you are playing ps1 games on the ps2 you can access the PS1 driver config and increase the disc speed therefore reducing loading times.

I've actually crashed PSX games, speeding up the disc speed like that. So use at your own risk.

Ooh, which games?  I'd like to try that.

I don't recommend the slimline PS2 as they are prone to overheating, even against the efforts of the tiny intermittent whiny fan.  Plus you can't rest your games on top of it.  Many more reasons too.

dang so i need to find a PSX memory card?  the regular ps2 mem cards don't work with PSX games?  do they even sell regular PSX mem cards anymore?

PS2 games read memory cards different from PS1 games. Because of this, even if it were possible to use the same kind of card for either system, you couldn't put save data from both systems onto the same card.

Then you might as well download a PSX emulator and play the games on your computer.
An emulator allows way more "tweaks"
