Seeing as FF8 is my favorite Final Fantasy, I decided to try modeling Squall's gunblade. This I actually started months ago and have been slowly working away at it in my spare time or whenever I felt like doing so. Not much, but it looks cool.
There are some basic textures on it right now. They may end up on the final version.
Polycount is 2918, while its 32816 smoothed.
I still have to add a lot more detail to it. The chain on the butt of the handle, the Griever engraved on the blade and a few screws here and there. I'll post more in the future as I add more to this awsome weapon.

That is looking awesome! :-D
-
very cool... must be hard to wield it though :-P
-
Excellent work. Once completed, do you plan on releasing it as a FF7 or FF8 weapon replacement? That would be awesome! Again, great work.
-
I never thought about making it a weapon replacement...
I could release it to the public and I suppose if someone wanted to, they could.
-
What did you make it in?
-
It's currently being made in 3ds max 7, but I can export it as 3ds if need be.
-
that looks awesome, cant wait to see it with added details, keep up the good work, for the love of god PLEASE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! :-D

If anyone is interested, I require a fairly detailed image/sketch/outline of the engraved Griever on Squall's gunblade. I plan to use such an image as reference, or use it directly as a bump map onto the model. Any assistance in acquiring such an item would be greatly appreciated.

I hope these help.

UPDATE: I was finally able to get the engraved Griever onto the blade.
After searching around the internet to no avail, on a hunch, I went to deviant art and started looking. I actually found what I was looking for there and Otokoshi, thank you for the images, they helped with finalizing the image i found.
After a bit of photo-shopping and working with the image, I got it to where I wanted on the blade and applied it as a bumpmap.

My only problem with it is the colour change between the gun part of the blade and the blade part of it...
Maybe it's just me?

That is a REALLY sexy blade. :-o I think the lighting just makes the chamber seem a different color. Shadeing plays tricks on people...

It's the way the parts reflect the light depending on the angle we're viewing it from. Both have the same material applied to them.
-
In that case, I think the thing's a beaut.
Well done.
-
Just a fire test image. Nothing spectacular at the moment, however, I hope I can produce better resullts for later renderings.

Wow, your normal is WAY too reflective. you may want to tone that down.
-
Yeah. That's actually the material setting. I'll have to play around with that.
-
Oop, *material* setting. (I've been working with surface normals. It's 6:00am, I got confused ^_^)
