Whoa. That's serious ... guess those of us in countries with milder climates never really think about things like that. I was in a 30 hour? or so blackout 2 years ago, but that *was* in the middle of Anglesey, so we were talking deserted countryside anyway ... hardly surprising. Nothing like the scale you're talking about.

Like Darkness, I've never been more than 3 hours without power.

(Malaysian's, correct me if I'm wrong here)
The last major blackout in my country was a horrible one, I think it happened 4-5 years ago.
The whole country's electricity supply went out for more than 24 hours.
The entire country was completely crippled when this unexpected incident came about.
Unlike Jari's case it wasn't caused by some natural disaster or something.
IIRC, one of the main power generators blew causing some kind of chain reaction taking every other power generator's connected to the main grid, even the backup ones. Talk about catastrophe...

Blackouts aren't too uncommon on the east coast here, though major ones usually occur in the summer-our worst was a hurricane who's name I can't quite remember about four years ago.

We were probobly out two and a half days total-but in the summer, other than being uncomfortable it wasn't a huge deal...except not having a shower kinda sucked.

we dont get them very often in the mid-west. lightning strikes a pole and knocks out a neighborhood or something.

Yeah...I still remember that, Saint. I went to sleep early and woke up in darkness the next morning. I was quite young @ that time.

Ouch.  Yeah, last winter here we had an icestorm.  Was about 25-30 deg F.  200000 people lost power.  Mine was out for 7 days.  Talk about suckage.

I've seen some pretty bad storms where I live but wow...nothing like what I'm reading here! I will be thankful from now on that they are not any worse than they are.
