Title: No sfx on Creative Audigy
Post by: Dauby on 2007-02-24 12:20:44
Hello everyone, I recently bought a US copy of this marvelous game and followed through tons of threads on how to make it work on my PC. It works fine and I have no problems, except one: there is no SFX at all in the game.

I'm using an SB Audigy card and in FF7 config I have the Chocobo sound, but later no sfx in the game. I also have a SoundMAX Digital Audio card in my PC, but no sfx with that either...

The size of my "audio.dat" file is 71.738.528.

Thank you for your help.

Note: previously I installed the 1.4 XP patch, dumb of me, but removed it and made a clean install after I read about its effects...

Additional information:

1, I have XP Pro with Service Pack 2 installed
2, Every other game runs fine (including a couple of also tricky games, like Might and Magic VII), even games using DosBox.

What do you have selected for the "Sound Driver" in FF7Config?
Have you tried different choices?

I tried both SB Audigy Audio and SoundMax Digital, but no cigar...  :x

1 more thing: before I erased all my previous codecs from the system, I had the "black-screen" issue, but I had sfx in the Main Menu before crashing to desktop. After installing the K-Lite Codec Pak I have videos and music, but no sfx. K-Lite can be tuned by its Codec Tweak Tool, but it has about 60 entries - you can disable/enable encoding of a lot of things in it manually. I tried at least 5-6 combinations, because otherwise my Xvid movies were not playing correctly and now everything seems to be perfect with all kind of games and movies...
...only 1 issue remains unsolved: sfx in FFVII...

Is this SoundMax device a built-in thing as it might be conflicting with your SB perhaps? I can't say I have heard of the SM device but if it's some kind of onboard sound chip then try disabling it from your BIOS and see if the SFX run with just your Audigy.  :-)

Dont see why it would conflict for him and not me.

Soundmax is the onboard sounds device.

Im using an SB Live 24bit card too, and FFVII runs fine....

Hello xeriouxi, there is no conflict at all with the 2 cards. Everything works fine, only FFVII has this strange glitch.

Does somebody know what kind of codec FFVII uses for its sound "emulation" as this could be a solution to my problem?
