I don't have FFVIIPC and I have **** PC so I was wondering what the minimum requirement are.
-
Well, when I first played FFVII I used my dad's computer, which it had a 200 Mhz processor, 2 Gb hard drive memory, 32 Mb RAM, a 24x CD-ROM, and Windows 98. It played kinda slow, but at least I played it.

-
Minimum official requirements are:
P133 (or Cyrix 200) with a 3d card
P166 without 3d card
32MB RAM
4MB video memory
4x CDROM
DirectSound compatible card
Actually, with a 3d card the minimum CPU speed is pretty playable (even if it's only the minimum 4MB card!).
-
Cool :cool:
I have P166, a 4mb Graphics card, and a 12x CD Drive.
I can't believe it.
PS My PC's 4 or 5 years old
-
Well, if your card is supported by FF7 then you're fine. If not ... well, you meet the specs for minimum software rendering, but that is *really* crap.
-
Your PC's 4 or 5 years old? Well... So is FF7.

haha. how true. anyway, i ran it on my p166mmx with no 3c acceleration, and it worked. just barely, but it did.
-
I can beat that. I ran it on a 120mhz with 48?mb ram. (With a stinkiing 2 gig hd). Without 3-d acceleration.
By the way, when I cast Knights of the Round, I could walk upstairs, make a snack, eat it, flip through the tv channels, and walk back downstairs and it would still be casting.
In other words, it was SLOW.
-
I played it on my P200 with 3dcard, but those knight of round are lasting really long. Especially when casted 4x and then mimed.
-
LOL, that's true. I didn't have any 3D accelerator and it was also very slow. Specially while casting Knights of the Round. I would take that time to watch the TV or something. When I fought the emerald weapon, it took me about 2 hours to beat it and I was casting Knights of the Round none stop.

When I first played it on my system, I was a P-133 with 48megs of ream, and 2 1-gig HDs. Soon afterwards, (Around the time I was about to reach Fort Condor) I got a Voodoo2. Man, did that ever scream! The GFXs looked 10-times better, and played at REAL speed! (Before I was getting half-full speed on 320x240. Stupid 2meg ATI card!)
Now I'm workin on build a computer that is specifically designed for slower, older games. It'll be a Win98 machine, P-200MMX with a (cringe) Intense Voodoo Rush card (I might put my Voodoo2 in it...), and several other nice things.
All I need now is a power supply and an ATX case for it.

Now that I read, all of these posts right here. I wonder how many of us have played FFVII in really crappy systems?
I know I was one, and I have read that some of you have also played FFVII in slow computers.

Ahh... but more recently, I've played FF7 with my current system, before I went to win2000.
It was AMASING! The only part that was worse was the movies. They still sucked (in terms of quality).

I've played FFVII on P200MMX, 64 MB of RAM, Voodoo 1 Card (combined with 4MB S3Virdge DX/GX), 2.5GB samsung hdd, and Yamaha 3D soundcard. I still have that comp at home and I'm using it to play old (usually dos) games (it is helpfull, because some games don't want to run on geforce, sblive etc). Well it was kinda slow (not all the time, some spells, transitions between screens, ..) but I liked it.
-
Sephiroth: Dont know if you wouldnt need a AT case for that ... my P200mmx is in AT.
-
It's not the system, it's the OS. I could have an AT system running WinXP, or a super-powerful 1.7gHz ATX system with a GeForce3 running on DOS and Win3.1. (I doubt I'd find drivers for them, but I COULD do that!)

Man you guys are too rich... :mad:

WOOHOOO!!! I've convinced my brother, to pay £500 on upgrading my computer :grin:
PS Do you think I should wait till the PC's updated to get FFVII or just get it now (It'll probably take him 3 or 4 months to save up.)

Get it now. It might work on your current system... If not, you'd be ready when it's upgraded!

According to my dad, ATX cases are only necessary if your motherboard is designed for a Pentium2 class chip or above. AT case should fit perfectly. Now, in response to playing on cheap systems.....
I can beat ye all in crappy FF7 performance! :smile: Please note that my system has been severly upgraded since I first played, so, by all means, READ IT AND LAUGH!!
I first played it on a 233mhz Pentium1 MMX (I'm still using the same processor to this day), with 32megs of RAM, 540 meg hard drive, and (of course) DirectX 5.0; with a corrupted version of DirectMedia installed (but I didn't know it was corrupted until I ran DX diag for the first time).
Now here's the insult to all that injury . I was running it on a 2meg Trident PCI card, which had a nasty habit of SLOWING DOWN the Software rendering, which was my only option. 320X240 was ok, but you could tell you're missing out on something. The config reported the card only passed "8-bit paletted textures"
Sound was terrible. I used SB16 for sound, which meant (shudders with horror) FM synth only for hardware sound! SoftSynth messed up after a sound effect was played. Go thru a door, music studdered until I turned off the game. Also, no hardware Acceleration for sound either. Movies took forever to load.
So, I think I know how quickly a man's pride in his system will be gone when his system has no acceleration at all, and he trys to play a quick game of FF7.

Message!

The first system I ran FF7 on was an AMD K6 233 (not a K6-2, an original K6.) with 32 Megs of RAM. It had a 4 meg S3 Virge, an AWE 64 (with only the default 512K of SF RAM), and a 1.2 gig hard drive (which crashed not long after I installed FF7, so I had to buy a new one . . .) with Win95 OSR2.
-
I run FFVII first on a Pentium II 233 with 64 megs of ram and a Ati Rage Pro 4 meger.
I ran fine but it crashed quite a lot (the CD-Rom I had was crap. That was before I knew I could copy the mives to the hard disk). It crashed onthe movies a hell of a lot and in the game quite a lot. But I loved it all the same.
Being slow is one thing rampant crashing is... a while another level. So you cant beat that... unless you crashed more than me :razz:
-
My system used to crash alot when I tried to summon either Neo or Bahamut Zero. It would crash like halfway thru the animation, because there was simply too many polygons for the software renderer to process, especially when my trident card applied its 3d- *deceleration* habit on it.
I would get a white screen saying the usual stuff and a choice of closing the program or cancel and have it totally lock up the system
-
Specs wise, my first FF7 system wasn't exactly state-of-the-art.
Cyrix 200 CPU (which actually ran at 133 - just like the new Athlons are marketed - great innit?)
48MB RAM
Permedia2 4MB card
AWE64 ( <---- the good thing in my computer )
So I was actually *nearly* the minimum spec - Cyrix 200 (ie. a 133Mhz) and a 4MB 3d card was the least you could have. Just exceeded the RAM spec which was good, all things considered...
Once I'd actually got it running (by the Cyrix patch) it ran quite fast. Which was surprising.

oh yeah . . . well . . . well I'm gonna run FF7 on my Good Old Classic 486. YEAH! That's right!
The thing flies at 66Mhz, has a spacious 350 Meg hard drive, 20 Megs of RAM, and a rockin' 1 Meg Cirrus Logic VL-Bus Video card.

Dude, your system would be the envy of my school's entire computer lab!
Seriously, we're stuck with 1994-era systems running win95 Version A!
Why? Because our school is cheap; and it shunts ALL THEIR FUNDS to be used in maintaining the SPORTS PROGRAM!
Geez.....Our financial staff are IDIOTS..... :mad:
-
ugh . . . I know how that is. Don't you just hate it when the school blows all their money on something as worthless as new lights for the football stadium?
-
I've got something worse... the local public high school doesn't have enough books for everyone. People have to rent them from their skimpy library, and most usually don't get one to do homework. That's sad in itself, but the really bad thing is that whenever they come up with a thouseand dollars, instead of saving it up for books, they buy a crappy computer. And then they restrict it, so the students can't use it for more than 10 minutes. NEVER go to a public school in Des Moines.
-
i go to one of the richer schools in the area, and all 1000 or so of our pcs run windows 98, but theyre all from like 1996. it takes like 45 seconds to compile
#include
main()
{
cout << "Hello Worldn";
return 0;
}
its horrible. Our mac lab *shudder* has better computers than the rest of the school.
-
My friend played the game on a 75 mhz pre-Pentium chip (no 3d accel, on MIDI support on card so he had to use the Yamaha SoftSynth).
SLOW even in 320x240. The BATTLE SWIRL took at least 30 seconds. Summons and spells were very very bad.
Ack, it pains me to think about it.
-
I hate C++ on our College Computers.... if I make an error like I miss out the end of line terminator when I compile the program it tells me I have something ridiculous like 27 errors! Also we all have 30MB network space and a program that will add 2 integer numbers takes up about 4MB... you can imagine how much space is needed for databases.... :evil:
-
Aaron-> sounds like fun.
-
Ah don't feel too bad Darkness (a few posts up). ALL of our computers are Macs (90% iMac) ...... bleh.
And I'm the system admin. I'd really really like to replace em all with PC.
-
ooh! that reminds me. i get to be system admin second semester! :grin:

You'd be surprised at how much me and my friends joke about it!
Right now, we have this theory that by 2010, the school will have state-of-the-art Sports equipment, a full-blown football stadium, and still have not upgraded the computers at all.
Even worse, the computer lab teacher is old, very hard of hearing, doesn't pay very close attention to what people do, and prefers to take out all the good stuff in the comps and replace with 1992 era stuff, in order to prevent kids from trying to play games.
Heck, my friends are able to run circles around the network permissions he set up on the computers. Of course, we've really only done stuff like change the desktop image, but if we wanted to we could really give him some problems.
