Title: Fraps'ing or recording FF7 PC...
Post by: Masx on 2007-08-15 08:29:02
Can anyone explain to me how to get it to record at a decent frame rate?  When I load up fraps and start recording... it starts to crawl.  Yet for any other games they work fine.  I know I've seen a few youtube videos of people's recordings and they were smooth.

I know it's not my hardware.  I have a AMD X2 4400+ 4GB ram.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Whatever I put it on, it still crawls.  I just edit the clips to play at double speed and it plays perfectly   You can do it using Movie Maker or, even better, Cyberlink Power Director - my movie editing software of choice.

has several ff7 in game videos on his account.  They play at a decent framerate, i suggest asking him =)

Personally, i would suggest:  Don't use the high-res patch, play it in 320x240 mode, windowed, and use a program like Camtasia where you can record just a portion of the screen.  This may help your fps.

Great idea! but it's not so great if you want to record it with sound :( .  I wonder how this guy ended up recording without problems.

The framerate in that YouTube video is pretty horrible. I wouldn't say that's perfect.

It looks like he was using hardware mode rendering mode, which may be faster to record.

Ah, yes - such videos of cleverness and wit  :-D

I always edit the sound effects and music on afterwards.  You can find the music pretty easily by googling and there are loads of free sound effect sites around.

:( wish it would just work "out of the box" lol  :-D

By the way anyone have a save file right at Sephiroth battle?  Maybe I'm terrible at searching but didn't find one anywhere.

Thanks!

What I meant was fraps recording, in reference to all the work arounds needed to get it playing at decent speeds.  Apparently there is no perfect solution for it  :-(

Surely if you hardware render it, then FRAPS would software record it, thus spreading the load?

I saw my friend FRAPSing FFVII on quite a poor PC.  I'll attempt it later tonight.

FRAPS isn't a screencap, though.  it renders OpenGL/DX data to an mpg.  Therefore, putting something windowed won't help.

(Is one week necro'ing?)
