Title: Problem with the laptop patch...
Post by: Vortigun on 2007-09-02 17:05:03
Heya, I recently borrowed FFVII from a friend and installed the game, and the required patches.

Everything seems to work fine as far as the movies go, but the laptop patch seems to stop working randomly (either that or I get a crash, I'm not sure), and I can no longer use any of the buttons that the patch altered (enter and the arrow keys).  This usually happens during the name select screen (I can still use backspace, spacebar and the letter keys, but I can't use the arrow keys or enter) but it has happened when I was running through the menu.

I was wondering if simply using a USB keybord would solve this problem (as in not running the game on the laptop patch), but I would rather not have to buy one to be honest.

If it makes a difference I am using Windows Vista.

It seems that every time I solve a problem an new one arises...

I just plugged in a controller to solve the first problem (didn't know we had one or I would have tried it sooner...) but now I have another issue.  After the first reactor exploads there is a small amount of text where it is said something like:

'Now the planet can survive a little longer'
'...'
'Stand back everyone'

The characters run to the back of the tunnel and then the screen goes black, I hear the CD trying to load, then failing and nothing happens.  I have installed all the patches, and all the other movies run fine, I have no idea what is wrong...

That's where a "trouble" movie is supposed to play.

In ff7, there are several movies that the game has trouble reading for any number of reasons.  That's one of them (it's a very small clip of a side of a building exploding).  Try the "movies to HD tweak" ( http://www.ff7-universe.com/Downloads/FF7Movietweak.txt ) and it should work flawlessly.

Oh, i see you're using Vista.  Make sure you have admin access to your computer, or you may not be able to run the registry hack portion of the  movie tweak.

Tried that and it did absolutely nothing.

Sick of this, I have decided to solve all my problems by buying a PS1 and FFVII, it just seems a monumental waste of my time to try and solve these problems time after time, with no foreseeable end to them.  Every time I solve one problem, another arises, sometimes I get to actually play the game briefly, but it happens so rarely that it just isn't worth it.

Thank you for all your help though!
