Title: microsoft: where do you want to get p*ssed today?
Post by: Joey on 2001-11-29 23:36:00
As I was trying to download IE6 from an old backup after reformating my comp, that stupid Windows update reports errors after downloading task manager and ends the download. When I went to it's website for support, it forced me to join ms passport and then asked me to put the product ID of IE6. I ended up putting my comp's ID there, and since it's OEM version they refuse to give any support

BUT THE IE6 IS FROM YOUR SITE, MS FU*KERS

Oh boy.......

Do a custom install and have it skip Task Manager.

I've had IE 6 since it was in beta stages, and since the second release of the beta, I've been extremely pleased with it.  It hasn't crashed yet on this comp (had for... almost a month now?)... but really, when it comes down to it, I can't find any differences between this and previous versions except the icon and an option to delete all the cookies.  Hmm.

Well, I recommend getting it, as it is based on XP technology, so should be stable.

:erm: I don't know... I try and stay away from any internet product that can run exes from your HD. To high a chance of someone having a virus auto-download to your HD and have it automatically run.

That's one of the problems they're having with that new worm over here...

I use NS all the time. The only time I use Internet Exploder is when I can't access a page for some stupid reason.

And I already have NAV. We bought a copy of NAV 2001a few months ago... Hmmm... I need to reinstall that...

Well, I think there is a patch (from windowsupdate.microsoft.com) for older versions of IE (5.0? 5.5? not sure) that keeps pages from running .exes or anything off them and giving you a virus that way.

If you do a lot of downloading from Morpheus or LimeWire or anything, you might want some AntiVirus software.  And in any case, it couldn't hurt to have some anti-virus installed.

EDIT: Crappy wording.

I'm using an antiviral program... it's called "common sense of how to use a friggin' computer properly". I mean, really... the only reason viruses are created is to pick on the idiots who don't know jack about how to use their new Gateway systems. Unfortunately those same idiots are the vectors for spreading these viruses, often infecting the sensible and knowledgeable users through their careless and utterly stupid actions.

The way I see it, if there weren't any stupid people on the net, it would just be a waste of time for people to create viruses and worms, since they wouldn't get past our impenetrable security layer known as "common computer sense".

Why dont you guys just do what my mate did.
Type in Norton into Kazza or Mopheus and you should be able to download Norton Systemworks 2002.
This includes the lastest antivirus amongst many other things.

Actually, I got Norton AntiVirus 2002 for my friend (b/c Corporate, at least the one I have, does not work in XP).  Also, I got Norton Utilities for myself.

I've only had virus problems twice - first was a stupid e-mail attachment (Sircam I think) and second was a "Windows XP Crack" (before I discovered that I didn't need a crack for the corporate... heh).  The antivirus software saved me twice, heh.

I don't think you can buy it unless you're a corporation.

Heheheh, I got the corporate edition of WindowsXP Professional for free from work, since I'm a technician and all... gotta love those employee benefits! If you're working in a tech related field, and your company is relatively large, chances are you can just ask your supervisor or administrator for a copy.

Otherwise, you're gonna have to get a bootleg.
