It has been suggested to me that I ask here to see if anyone knows where Tifa's glove polygons are located (as well as Buster Sword and Gattling Gun).
Using Ficedula's LGP tools I've located all othe the character weapons in the magic.lpg except Tifa's. (I haven't checked to see if all the swords are there, I just know for certain Buster Sword is not an h_sword, and Gattling Gun is not one of the brhand.)
Using Ficedula's Ifalna, I located a hand for Tifa and a gun for Vincent, but I must confess I'm daunted to look through all of the field.lpg files for anything that Ifalna doesn't cover.
I'm also curious where the battle character and monster polygons are located. I have FF7vM for the PSX version which does me fine for most of the battle and monster polygons, but it would be interesting to know where they are hiding in FFVII PC.
I have a bit of fun sticking together the polygons into whole characters, and it would help to know where Tifa's other hands were located : )

All these files are stored in battle.lgp;
So take a look at Allhex's page, he has there description of files inside battle.lgp http://www.8ung.at/alhexx/ff7/battle_database.txt
There you'll find that tifa's files start with 'ru'.
:Wait now I see that Alhexx removed some text from that file. So here it is from some older version:
--------------
4. Here's an example of a model (Tifa), so you can see how it is build:

So tifa's gloves are files 'ruck' - 'rucz'. Extract these files from battle.lgp and you have all tifa's fighting glovez.
For other characters do the same thing. Look into Alhexx's database for first two characters of filename and add 'ck' - 'cz' to it. These are weapons of that character.
-
Whoo!
Thanks a zillion!
Now I get all curious as to why so many of the weapons are in the magic.lpg and so durned easy to find!

yup, all of the weapons are connected to the hands. i think the ones in magic.lgp are just what they use for casting spells.
-
Hmm... but why would they have seperate ones for casting spells? That's what I would like to have answered...

That would be a little odd, since Buster Sword and Gattling Gun are conspicuously missing from the magic.lgp.
Besides, if the weapons *were* connected to the hands, then there whould be whole copies of all the characters in the magic.lgp to account for them NOT having weapons in their hands...for the few that let go of their weapons to cast.
-
need i remind you that cloud puts the buster sword on his back when casting spells?
-
Eh heh, OK...
If the weapons are connected to their hands and cannot be unconnected in the battle models, and the reason there are weapons in the magic models is so they can be let go, therefore there would also need to be a copy of Cloud without a sword stuck to his hand in the magic models so he wouldn't have TWO swords when he casts (one to let go of and one stuck to his hand).
Since there is NOT in fact a copy of Cloud in the magic files, I suspect that is not the reason there are weapons in the magic files. Besides, Barret certainly doesn't let go of his weapon to cast.
That all brings up another burning question: Why so many Barrets and Vincents?

Princess Artemis: Nice to see you posting here. Probably you should register, so we don't have to read this 'Anonymous'-User ...
mirex: Thanx a lot, some ppl have been askin' me for exactly this text you've posted above, but I've deleted the file consisting this part. But now I've got it again

Did I forgot to mention that Princess Artemis has sent me *a lot* of names for the Database? So expect a new update the next days ...
BTW: That's my 499th post - 1 more to go...

Damnit, forgot to answer the question above:
I've got a suspiction:
There are many Barrets for many places he appears. I think that the Barret model used in the fight against Dyne is another model than used in the other battles. That also would explain why there are so much Yuffie models - one for every forest where you can meet her.

Arright arright, I registered :)
Actually, I've been making similar text files for the summons, you know, left lower wing, left uper wing, that sort of thing. So far I have files for all three Bahamuts (tho', ::sniff:: Ficedula's LGP Tools can't display Neo Bahamut's wings because they're too big and fall off the end of deep space in the back), most of the KotR, Shiva, Phoenix, and some provisonal ones for Leviathan and the other KotR.
If anyone is interested I could send them...
That's a good answer about the Barrets...never thought about there being one for Dyne. That leaves the Vincents unaccounted for. I figured the Yuffies were different levels or something, like the Chocobos (Wonderful, Great, level 16, level 15, there's sooo many of them...)

Uhm, you guys do know that I've made a list of all known P file extentions, right?
I think Alhexx has a copy.
-
aye, but thats a copy for the remake, right?
-
What list of all known P extensions ? never seen it. Where is it, where is it ?

I wouldn't exactly say so, it's just a collection of information I collected when I decided to spend a few hours looking at the files. You guys probably know most of what's in here, or maybe more since I'm sure you've all looked through the files more than me.
Anyway you can get it Here (http://zhenjock.digitalrice.com/rubbish.txt)
-
Yep, I've got a copy of it. It'll be included in the new Version of the Battle Database. Next Update? Probably today
BTW: Yieppiee ! I'm a Freak now !

Multiple P files formats? new one to me... But then again, I'm not really concerned with that...

hehe  the secret ingredient is free time, and neglecting to do homework.
-
Mwahaha! I've finished term! No more work (well ... except all that coursework ... let's just ignore that!) for weeks!
-
hehe 2 weeks till finals..... 6 projects due within the next 2 weeks. damn.
-
Ah, college...how I don't miss thee in the slightest.
Well, OK, maybe I miss it a little. I don't miss finals tho'.
Darkness, I feel for you.
Here's a little bit of wisdom from someone who did it...don't! DON'T EVER TAKE 21 SEMESTER UNITS AT ONCE!!! Especially not in a state where art unit hours are two hours long! Never! Save thyself from much misery, madness, and broken toes!!
-
hehe this makes it even worse: im in high school  oh joy, i have a lot to look forward to.
-
Oh, dude...OK, in that case...
When you get OUT of HS, you will LIKE college, if you go. Seriously. Even tho' finals will still be horrifically evil and stuff.

Ok, this is sorta getting back to the main topic, but you know how you guys are into skinning the models and putting 'em back together and stuff, right?
I found this link in the DirectX area of Direct3D:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?url=/downloads/topic.asp?URL=/msdn-files/028/000/114/topic.xml
Click on the "DirectX 8.1 SDK Extras" link. Scroll down on the main frame that appears and you should see something called "D3D XFile Exporters" in the list. It's a bunch of plugins for programs like 3DStudio Max that specifically allows you to extract the skinning information that is used for D3D.
I'm not quite sure what that means, but I'm guessing that it will tell you how D3D puts all the textures together.
I figured that this might of some use to you, since you're constantly talking about only viewing parts of models and stuff. Heck, this might help with the 3D graphics coding of the Remake Project.
-
i hope so, artemis...
-
Goku7: No, we already know how *other* programs do textures - that doesn't really help us much with FF7's files...especially since it's a fairly strange file format anyway.
