for someone to tweak the game and host online so people can battle eachother with their saves? that would be interesting always wondered how I'd compare to other people who play FF7

I've had the same idea. But sadly I doubt it is possible, unless you do some serious tweaking. It would certainly be interesting though!

surly it would be easyer for some of the developers here to make one from scratch to load up charactors and your save file

I think L.Spiro was working in something similar long ago. But I think I heard he got a C&D order or something like that. He was doing it from scratch of course, because modifying the exceutable to that extent would be sensless.
