I just came from school and I went to pickup my software bundle that the school was giving out. I could not believe what it contained. Check it out:
approximate price in $
Windows 2000 server - $696
Office Professoinal 2000 - around $500
FrontPage 2002 - $150
Visual Studio 6.0 Professional - $2,500 (it has 12 CDs)
Visio Professional 2002 - I don't know but it costs a lot
Project 2000 - This I have no idea
All these for free. Every student on school were charged $99 to be included with the tuition costs, and in return we got all these software. I still can't believe what I have in my hands. AAHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Well, of course you could have just picked up a distribution of...
....nah, should resist the urge this time. Way to go, congratulations on your new software. BTW, all OEMs can buy a huge box full of Microsoft CDs directly from microsoft for around $200 (including close to everything Microsoft has ever published) with five licenses for each CD. I happen to do a little part-time-coding for a firm that is also on the OEM list...so personally I have even better deals (free use).
But, none of my posts are complete without a little political statement: It isn't your school paying for these products. They have special deals with Microsoft. And Microsoft aren't doing this to be nice... (contrary to the scientific facts, Bill Gates believe that there is no such thing as a free lunch)

You know you could just download all that software of the internet.
Not that I would or anything
-
hehe our school has all of these anti-piracy/hacking posters in our comp lab. We can't get any software off of them. damn them...
-
Heh, I have some of that software you listed off Morpheus
I love cable (only had it a month).
-
good news: cable will be available shortly
bad news: DSL has been available in the area for the past 1/2 year, but the phone company is too lazy to upgrade the lines that go to the people's houses, which is preventing everyone from getting it)
-
I know I can get all this software on the internet, illegally, but it's better to own all this without having to worry about legal stuff. There is one problem though, it's too much for my laptop. I think I'll make myself a really powerful computer with lots of hard drive memory. Still, this is a good deal, but dagsverre is right, this is probably something that Microsoft does so we can be hooked even more on microsoft products, but heh, as long as I get free software I'm cool.

I have Visual Studio 6 (all of it fits on 1 CD...) and the July 2000 edition of the MSDN Library. (3 CDs...) I downloaded VS6 and my friend who's on the MSDN list (He gets them for free every 3 months or so...) gave me an old version he didn't need anymore.
I'm not a programmer... But I have friends who are! (Hmm... considering Kefka... I might have to change that statement...)

Funily, my school did the opposite of vvalentine's school.
The computer lab teacher borrowed from me the pirated VS CD and even my Win98 CD to be installed on the crappy/antique school computers.

i cant wait to do that!!! It makes me wish fials were right now (well, not really) so the second semester would start. Ive never actually met the tech guy at school, ive only recieved a few emails from him.
-
Hmm, the MSDN library costs that much? Even though I program, I still don't know what's so special about the MSDN library. Call me ignorant, but I still can't use it. I need more programming experince.
