I havnt been on here for the last few years and was wondering what are some of the best patches now?
I know there's the basic 1.02 update for XP computers. But I was wondering what patches I would want to be able to play in Hi-Res, 1280x1024, not have a problem when I play the chocobo race/Submarine game, snowboarding, or highway game.
The patches I had saved with my FF7 cds seem to just give me errors now so I was wondering for some updated patches as well as what order to install them.

The High-Res patch already includes the Chocobo races fix, so you don't have to worry about that one.
Install it in this order:
1.02 Patch
High-Res patch
1280x1024 Fix
Mini-Games patch, using YAMP. You can find it here: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5124.0 (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5124.0)
Have fun.

What does the 1280x1024 fix patch do?

What does the 1280x1024 fix patch do?
Isn't it obvious? The High-Res patch changes the resolution to 1280x960 (4:3 ratio). This fix adds black borders and changes the resolution to 1280x1024 (Which is the one used by pretty much all 17-inch and 19-inch LCD monitors out there.

o well the one hi-res patch came with the 1280x1024 patch so i thought it was something else.
The game's finally working again, however when go to menu or close it it seems a bit slow at doing both occasionally. As well as the first few frames of walking around when exiting it.

Do not use any driver newer than 163.75 if you have a GeForce card. The game will run slower and slower untill it freezes if you do.
EDIT: Oh and there will also be a notable performance hit when using the HR patch, if your card is an older model.

Don't install the hi-res patch if you have a laptop (which can do only up to 1280x800). The few times I tried the hi-res patch, it fudged my pc up quite a bit (though all that is needed to reboot the pc is to wait a minute before turning it on again, to reset the faulty video settings that the patched ff7.exe attempts to do).

well i have Nvidia 6600GT with the latest driver. So is that too good of a card? (because i noticed the speed of fights beginning to effect me) and where can i get a older version of the driver?

You gotta find the driver yourself. Nvidia will likely have it. If not, google it.
