EDIT: computer is having errors with other applications I have installed, please ignore this thread as I can not test this at the current time
-
Is there even an official version where you can install whichever programs you like?
-
As I have used Windows 7, it has allowed me to install whatever I like (However, my current Windows 7 setup is at my friend's house, and I'm not there often, so it'll be a while before I can test this)
Sorry for the delay in the testing

Was going to make a topic for this, but you beat me to it! After just having tried out the latest build of windows 7, I was curious to see if FF8 would work, as I was working through it on XP, and still had a ways to go.
Works like a charm!
If anyone is curious, this is an x86 version, I have an ATI 4850 using windows 7 drivers. All I did was a standard install of the program, then used the 1.31 high-res launcher.
Haven't tried FF7 yet, might in the future though.

There is still only the leaked Beta out. Or.. Some Betas are out. There are several versions out, but no one of them is the final release of W7.
It think there will be a lot of bugs..

The latest out is 6956, and the beta is due in January. Using it now on my main machine, a few compatibility issues with other programs, but nothing major. They could release it now and it would be better than vista.
Back to topic, I am through disc 1 with no errors or glitches. I have 8x FSAA going, with no background issues (besides the occasional black edge), no text issues. Everything is nice and crisp. Hope it stays that way.

@muteki link
I think it is still a problem, since it is a beta release. It is not easy to have a windows better than Vista. :P Vista is overloaded with useless crap and services.
I am playing FF7 on Windows Server 2008 atm, and i don't have problems either. Its more stable than Vista btw.

let us not forget that the vista betas and RCs were pretty good... then the final came out

I have Windows 7 RC7100, the newest verison, and the last til release. but anyways it will install it all but tm20. anyone have this problem?
-
Maybe you should check the other posts you made that say EXACTLY THE SAME THING... maybe you'll find an answer there
-
no this is a problem where it will not install the codec, it will not run the program. and trust me i searched thats how i got this topic
-
I can perfectly run ff7 and ff8 on my W7.
-
I second that.

I can perfectly run ff7 and ff8 on my W7.
I had to reinstall my windows 7 a while back and now I can't seem to make ff8 works.
Crash after Eidos FMV.
Using ff8.exe 1.2 Nvidia patch
Debug shows Unhandled exception at 0x0051beef in FF8.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x646c6569.
Any ideias?

Hmm..
FF8 refuses to install on my Win7. the setup wont start, doesnt matter what compatibility mode or admin rights i use. it just freezes, FF8 worked fine on Vista, XP etc.
oh and FF7 works like a charm on win7
anyone have any possible solution?

I remember the ff8 setup takes like 20 miutes to load, but it will show up eventually. Try making images of your disks and mount them using daemon tools or something similar.
