Title: [PSX] Final Fantasy VII - Pictures
Post by: darkvadd7 on 2009-02-24 11:38:31
Hi,
I want to know if it's possible to modify all the pictures of the game, I mean the introduction names, the credits, and for the mini-games.
Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks.

I can answer this one. Menu pictures is defo a yes (see my thread  for my patch) also the name editing pictures can be edited as well. I haven't found the Mini game pictures yet so i don't know what format there in but I'm guessing they should be .TIM like the rest. The credits is actually a FMV (i think) so that would require allot of work to probably replace. If you want to know about replacing Menu pictures id be happy to create a Tutorial for you.

I have seen how to change the menu pictures. But what I want is to translate the names you can see in this picture for example :

Thats all a part of the FMV so thats a no I'm afraid. Its not separate.

With the software 7mimic, you can see all this pictures (Opening and Staff roll), so, I think we can replace this.

Really? I didn't know that. I thought it was just all part of the video.

EDIT: Seems you can't on the PAL version i can't see the staff stuff in there.

Send me the files which you think the staff stuff is located in i will try extracting them for you.

I can see them with 7mimic in the NTSC and the PAL versions, but the problem is I don't know where this pictures are in the game. Try 7mimic and you will see all of them, but they are no indication about their location.

You can't replace files willy nilly in the PS1 version of FFVII.
The reason is it uses LBA addresses on the CD (not actual file names) most of the data for this is in FIELD\ and there is some big file that has that information in it. Along with a lot of the game information that you can't find otherwise.  I don't think this file is per sea used by the final fantasy engine but it might be hmmm haven't really investigated it all too much.

I have found the files, they are in MOVIE/OPENING.BIN and MOVIE/STAFF2.BIN. I have tested to extract files with ff7dec, but it doesn't work.

I have talk to lasyan3, and he have seen that the files OPENING.BIN and STAFF2.BIN aren't compressed. It "just" have to cut the files to get the pictures, but we don't know in which format they are.

See the header in beggining of file
[offset initial data][size] [offset initial data][size]
[offset initial data][size] [offset initial data][size]
[offset initial data][size] [offset initial data][size]

Always there, a simple program is possible.

I think I'm not doing the good things, for exemple for the two firsts :
5C 00 00 00 D0 28 00 00 4C 57 00 00 BC 88 00 00

5C is the beginning of the first picture and D028 is the size.
4C57 is the beginning of the second picture and BC88 is the size.

But I think the first is too large because I'm seeing the text and a lot of pixels after. And for the second I can't see anything.

Thank you very much. Maybe with more information I would make this program, but if you have done it, it is useless, and I think you are better.  :-P

I have problems with the files of opening.bin. The first file isn't good-sized, and the second is good like the image below, and one file of two is like this.

It's a simple TIM file. Open in a Photoshop with plugin or GIMP with plugin too.
I will make the rebuilder

I have problems with the files of opening.bin. The first file isn't good-sized, and the second is good like the image below, and one file of two is like this.
It probably has multiple palettes.
Unlike most bitmap files TIM files do not contain the data to convert the bitmaps data into a color correct image.
They have palettes (multiple as matter of fact) they do not have ANY information as to which palette applies to what part of a multipalette image.
This is handled by the program.
TIM's are loaded directly into the PS1 VRAM the palette location is part of the data (if it's not 16/24 bit image that is).
If you wish to completely decode that data you need to find the palette for the data.
I suggest you check the wiki on TIM data. That will help you.
