Hmm... since I suspect I've left people out when authorizing for the private forum, here's a 'simple' way to get it.
First of all, you must be directly involved with the project, or feel that you have something to contribute. And I'm not talking beta-testing here. If you feel worthy, post a note in the Tech-related forum, telling us why we should authorize you.
Requests can be sent to me directly, although I'd prefer if you'd go through The SaiNt. I'm a bit too busy to authorize people one by one, tell SaiNt about it and he'll forward a list to me. Right SaiNt? :)
Finally, we might choose to authorize you without you requesting it, I suspect there are a couple of talents in here who wouldn't request such a thing themselves...
On a side note: someone sent me a mail recently about this, but I lost it. Please contact SaiNt and he'll add you to the to-add list.
-
Well said :)
Ok, the time has come where we welcome more staff to the FF7 Remake Forum. (We're desperate for help here) :)
Let me just get a few things straight here:-
1. If you want to help us beta test programmes, you do not need to request for access to the forum. Beta's *will* be released if required. (Don't expect anything in the near future)
2. If you feel that you can provide either technically or "story-wise" please feel free to contact me.
3. To confirm that I have recieved your requests, I will either post a list in this thread or e-mail you directly. People that are not authorized will also be contacted :)
4. Though I understand that everyone is enthusiastic to know what is happening, please understand our position for not allowing everyone to have access to the forum. This will help us keep *legal* issues to the minimum and not *spoil* the story for all of you.
5. Like Qhimm said, some people here really are *worthy* of helping out but I'm pretty sure it's not within their *dignity* to request for access. This people that we're eyeing on will be recieving an invitation from us :)
6. Authorization is not handled by me alone. I'm only a co-ordinator and authorization is decided by members of the forum.
So, anyone who feels that you can contribute to this project, feel free to contact me at [email protected]
If you've sent mail to me previously but didn't recieve any reply, please resend me your request.
If you have any other question's feel free to post your questions in this thread. I'll be more than happy to help you.
-
Qhimm, I think you're gonna have to move this to the General forum if you want anyone's attention.
-
Said and done.
-
oh darn it, it would be cool to help out but ive got no programming talent. so what exactly are you doing again? re-making ff7 for Linux? or was that just halkun? tell me if you need any bums to get the coffee or something.
-
My stance on this (I don't have anything against this being said in public, though you are free to mail the answer if you think that is better):
I would really love to help, but I don't have the time.
If you give me permission I can always read the forum and try to help as much as I can, but all the help I'm likely to give will only be through posts in the forum (IE you would only get another person trying to push through his opinions without doing any really work). So it's up to you, if I get admission I'll read and comment when I can and if I don't I don't really care about that either, it just means more time on my hands for other stuff.
And if you think the game can benefit anything from using some parts of the legacy engine you should of course authorize me at once. Music engine comes to mind but that part is written just as much by Ficedula and you already have him in.
-
eerrrr: Yes, that was just Halkun. We want to "remake" FF7 in the sense of completely rewriting the story; but rather than redo the original game storyline (and probably offend everyone) we're probably going to write a prequel, ie. the story of what happened before the original FF7.
That said, of course, everything we find out about the FF7 data files will be useful to Halkun in porting FF7, but that's not the purpose of the remake.
-
I would like to sign up me and my freind Abyss Darkness for this project. Not only is he a quilified homicidel maniac he also has the added bonus to him of being a great writer and he knows FFVII almost as well as I do. You all know me though. What you dont know is that im a decent writer and I know FFVII Bloody well. So can we join then?
I told Abyss to register and come here a few minutes ago so he should itrodecue him self any second now.
-
Guys / Gals,
To be fair, I would recommend that you guys send me a request by e-mail so I can document things down. Please state your user name that you go by at the boards, which field of preference you wish to help out, and if possible an example of your work. Of course examples only apply to certain things. :)
So far I have recieved mail from 2 people:-
MOT
mr
I will begin submitting the proposals to the my other mates in the Remake forum.
-
Hello.
Yes I would be interested in contributing towards the storyline of the FFVII remake. I am a prety good writer and love the FF games especially VII.
I know SirCanealot in the real world. He knows FF better than me, so combined we would be capable of a strong input towards the project.
-
He also stated he was willing to put 120 hours a week into the project :D
-
120hrs a week? thats 5 days, I sleep for that long :)
-
Yes 120. He said he would happily put 120 hours a week into the project. He only needs 48 hours of sleep a week.
-
so he does nothing but sleep and work, what about play and party?
-
maybe he plays in his sleep......that sounded ruder than it was ment to turn out. i ment in like dreams......still rude. that remake sounds cool, are you SURE there is absolutely nothing i could do?
-
Sleep? Play? Party? No him mate.
Where are you abyss? You should have been down here to denny all this by now.
-
eerrrr: maybe you could sleep, play and party for abyss?
-
Ah men brother *Grabs a Bud*
-
hhhmmmm, good idea M0T. but i dont get enough of them for myself anyway, let alone Abyss. how about if i be The Remake Forum's very own Joey!
-
If u are gonna be the remake forums own joey you need a 9 page thread and fast. I dont get enough sleep myself, play and party is the problem
-
yeah i suppose Joey is a one-of-a-kind bum.
-
If Joey wasnt a 1 of a kind bum then wed all kill ourselves
-
Joey AHHHH!!! that name!
-
joey? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAHAHAHA

its all coming back to me... NO JOEY!!!!!!!!!! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHH
-
WHAT ABOUT ME????? :x Don't worry. I will NOT touch FF7 related threads as I don't know much bout the game.
-
WHAT ABOUT JOEY??? WHAT ABOUT JOEY??
THE LIES, THE DRUGS, THE ALCOHOL, AND THE JAIL CELL.
-
joey?
the teenage rape, the underage sex, all the sleeze in sqauresoft, all the copyright material being... copied :D all the shit hitting the fan, i dunno i could go on.___________________________________________
classic quote (off the top of my head).
"they are vector graphics" joey quoting facts (cough) about ff7's background files and artwork, that was the post that destroyed his so called career at sqauresoft :O
-
I can't remember that post.
Im not too hot on this but aren't vector graphics the multicoloured line thingies?
-
it was time ago, b4 the BIG forum split it was a post about something time ago.
cant remember it clearly, it was when every1 started to ask questions about who joey really is.
[This message has been edited by The Skillster (edited May 03, 2001).]
-
yup, i remember that post. everyone was getting really pissed off with Joey. and when it finally ended we all realised how stupid he really is, and now look what he's become.
-
can u clear me up about what the vector graphics quote was about?
b4 then we all thought he worked (first his "friend") in squaresoft.
i even remember saying the him
"tell your friend to make sure they have more options in the configurator in FF9PC"!!!
-
You people sure like to change topics. I guess I'd better step in here and clear things up. Here are Joey's two vector graphics quotes.
The first naturally started a bit of a ruckus: Joey Good news. My friend is including an 30 MB soundfont for FF9 PC. He is also going to use vector graphics encoded in an unknown format to make Qhimm suffer.(Sorry, Qhimm, it's not like me not telling my friends about stuff which has something to do with them.)You know what this means? Sharper graphics. Save file system will also be heavily encoded to prevent editing. My friend promises me that Square will surely realease FF9 for PC since he translating everything into machine code.
The second was an uproarous attempt to salvage the situation after having his statements trounced:
Joey !!! I thought you guys know how is the graphics rendered! Actually, 3D graphics are NOT and NEVER used in all the games. It is only normal picture files rendered by the main executable. The rumors about finding 3D graphics in FF games is a complete lie unless the program who extracts it has "inflated"(a term used to convert normal graphics into 3D) the picture files like the game engine did. FF8 wasn't done by him(my
friend), but he found out that the person who was responsible for it used lo-res graphics. So, after it was inflated, the graphics look terrible and it was slow because the game engine had to buffer the graphics throungly and repeatedly until all the pixels cannot be buffered anymore. That's also the reason why the main executable is huge. It has to do a lot of things like inflating graphics, displaying dialogues, playing sound and music, and most important, buffer everything before it reaches us. The code for inflating goes something like this(from FF8):
Buffer Graphics()
If "Battle.flxxxxx.fl" pixel = 200
ChangePixel 200 =/ 255The language is unknown (maybe an unknown secret programming language developed by Square). I stole this fragment of code from a document from my friend. Strangely, the program can not only buffer graphics but also sound and text. The text in FF8 was meant to be like that while the sound is buffered again and again until it can't be buffered anymore.
Also, the Nobuo Utemasu only wrote the notes for the music but he did not play them. The ones who had to play them in the computer using a program similar to ACID are the programmers! The sounds were painstakingly recorded specially for hi-quality music. Actually, when FF8PC was first realeased, Square received a lot of complains from buyers who wanted refunds for the game becaused of its poor quality in sound, graphics and text. Later, Square took back all the copies of FF8PC and rebuilt the code. It was then the consumers was satisfied. Thats why FF9PC will be tested first before the final realease. Also, Square has wickedly added a new feature, NO PRINT SCREEN! My friend says that his boss wanted him to disable that because of copyright-fuzzy. But my friend will try to secretly not to follow the order. And, the Skillster, my friend will try his best to improve the resolution and quality of everything. And sir canelot is right. Square can't resist the $ for the programmers pay. One month of my friend's salary is a four-digit number, paid in pounds. So, he's very rich and have 30 computers with everything, sound cards, graphics cards.....blah blah. He even has a bank account in Swiss Banks.(That was opened by his mom.) And after running an IQ test for him, we discovered that this IQ was really high. So, do you want any extra bounses for FF9PC?
BTW, please don't try to refute either of these. It's been done already. More than thoroughly, I might add. Laugh if you must (and I'm sure you must), but let's leave it at that. There's more than enough Joey bashing threads already, can we keep this from being another?
-
Jeez man... you kept all that crap.. God i remember that when you posted it.. that wuz such a laugh but seems like so long ago.. Did you manage to keep all the threads and crap that went around this forum??
-
wow, thanks Srethron. thats some cool info, so ff9 is coming to the pc after all. now we're gonna get loads of utilities for FF9PC and not for FF9PS. ARGH!
-
arg! thats all bull remember!!
yep srethron archives EVERYTHING!!
-
Everything, even this?
-
Caddberry: Not all of them. A fair amount. I've proposed resurrecting the FF7 Soundfonts thread in the Game Tweaking section, but no one's responded yet.
eerrrr: Don't believe everything you hear. This is Joey we're talking about. During this same time he said that FF9PC would be out in December of last year, remember? Plus, all of that "programming" stuff he's talking about just isn't true. As Qhimm put it, Joey sounds like a person who doesn't know what he's talking about.
M0T: ::evil grin:: Maybe. :)
[This message has been edited by Srethron Askvelhtnod (edited May 05, 2001).]
-
Oh dear go its a conspiracy, but I know, Joey will give me a really cool program that will prevent my messages being archived :)
---Joeys Patented archive preventer---
-
yes, you keep thinking that M0T. im a wee bit confused now Srethron, was that friend who told you all this Joey? cos you just said i shouldnt believe all that Joey says. ohhh i dont know, mummy!!! you stupid lady help me!
-
But he said he archived everything!!!
WAAAAAAAH
They're all out to get me
-
Hi EVERYONE~!
I'm not really a newbie, I browse the forum all the time and read people's comments and learn from you all. Anyway I would love to helpout in the remaking of FINAL FANTASY VII. I'm a fanatic of the FINAL FANTASY VII game. I'll contribute to as much as I can.
LaZyCrAzN
-
hi
thanks for offering, but at the moment we are overwelmed by the amount of people coming forward to help in the remake StoryWise, but we REALLY need people to help Technically, like programing, hacking wise.
-
Yes! And for your story you should pick the best! And me an Abyss are the best! Well at any rate what ever happens I will go with it. Should sure be a great ride what ever happens. Dont forget to send the bigiwgs at sqaure bags of money to forget about us :)
-
just send square a christmas card... maybe that will make them happy... tiz true though.. basically any one with a creative brain can write stories/dialogue/whatever... maybe sometime i will do a fanfic... i just never seem to get around to it.. or get inspired... :)
-
A christmas card? its after easter!
-
Whats your point Mot? As long as we stuff it with a few mill no one will mind.
-
yeah but everybody digs christmas anyway.. well most people... he he he
-
if your christmas cards contain a few mill d'ya think you could send me one?
-
yeah, me too please. i wonder what Square would do if they found out about the Remake. they couldnt close down Qhimm's entire baord though could they? unless they had a problem with his utilities.
-
Message.
-
If they close down the site I'm sure one of us could redo it with board etc
-
yeah we could all meet up in another forum :) Oh and by the way for the ff7 remake.. i am pretty good with photoshop.. adobe 5.5 getting 6.0 sometime.. n e way i am not an artist but if you need image touch ups i can do that.. although i dont know how well they would transfer through e-mail and hotmail has an account limit i think if your interested send me some info and i will try at
[email protected]
-
Knowing my luck it would be on a board you are all members of already and im not :(
-
Goo dpoint Cadberry. We will need artists. We arent going to be able to get by with only the back grounds in FFVII. I will hopefully talk to that good drwing freind of mine this week end. I will ask him about it.
We may want to try and get ahold of several . He will have to do it on paper and have me scan it in....bit of a pain.
-
yeah it would be.. then you have to worry about the size of the picture. and quality loss through e-mail.. but we could try it and if it turns out decently then great :) if not then hell it was probably worth a try...
-
well caddbery, why dont u give us a sample?
fire up cosmo, open up a level, go to background editor, then save it as a BMP, then fire away do what u like to it, then email it to me at:
[email protected]
then ill put it up for the other members to see..
-
im ok at computer art. i cant draw backgrounds straight off, but if Sir Canealot's friend draws them then he scans them in and sends them to me, i could maybe touch them up and make it more computery instead of pencil sketches. but im no real artist, i couldnt draw a background from scratch. could someone send me a background from FF7 or something cos i dont have the Pc version so i cant use Cosmo. i feel like playing around on PSP.
-
He said if he had the tools and the time he could do it. Perhaps he could try doing them really well in pencile then say you errr could colour them in in Psp? I think he will need to be motivated though. Might want to send him a few of my pattented christmas cards :D
-
done and done....
oh btw.. i am sending it from my aol account... easier to send attachments.. the pics are in .jpg format in a zip file...
[This message has been edited by Caddberry (edited May 12, 2001).]
-
u sending to me? or errr? if its to me ill check 2moro morning
-
i sent it to you.. you should have it... um i think
-
cool, ill check today in the afternoon, and then ill put it up for the group members to see. ok? thnks
-
ok i got and checked it
but im disappointed, maybe its my fault?
let me point some stuff out to anyone willing to have a try at some ff7 background art:
the remake will require AT LEAST a resolution of 640*480, and we want a background to match (ie its not 320*240 as in FF7pc, its gotta be BIGGER)

when emailing it to me, use lossless compression ie, use 0-1% compression with JPEG files, or use 32/16bit PNG files NO GIFS.

AND INCLUDE THE ORIGINAL PICTURE FROM FF7 if its a reworked verison, and also blown up to the same size.

Thanks u.
-
PLEASE can someone send me a pic from Cosmo???
-
He are we in on the project? We dont have to be granted acces to the forum or any thing like that(though it would help to discuss ideas). If you have people working on the story now tell us who it is and grant us permission to work with them. I my self have some ideas already. Dont know about Abyss though. Im sure he will.
-
When i did this all i did was re work an effect i could adjust it to 640*480 or whatever size you wanted... all i can really do is re-do effects or add effects to a back ground like what i sent you.. i am not really an artist but i can dress up a picture... there is no way i can make a background for ff7 from scratch ... i am not that kind of artist.. hell i dont even really consider myself an artist.. he he he.. i am a writer.. :)
-
One sure way to get your pics looking better is to use layers.
Just copy the section you want to enhance by creating a new layer and start editing on to the layer itself. You can start by applying filters onto the layer. After that you can do some modifications to it using the rest of the tools usually provided with graphic editing software. This is a pretty slow process, but you can get good results if you spend enough time of effort on the pics.
-
oh well, i guess im not gonna get those pics then. but for an example of skill, do you want us to like select a building in a pic and make a new layer with it. then play around with it and make the building look completely different, then send it to you with the old and new versions? im in the same position as you Caddberry, im no artist but i can draw an extra building in a scene or something.
-
its kinda crazy photo editing is well it seems easy but its not.. take a scene from ff7 any i mean any back ground pic in there really doesnt need to be fixed all that much unless you want to change the story's plot around to match something else.. i wouldnt even want to try to add a building to something else ... a door would be kinda easy.. see i use photoshop 5.5 and you could basically use the rubber stamper and just brush it over.. or just copy and layer it.. and yes thank the Gods for layers.. he he he.. but to add a building and get the shading and everything perfect would take atleast me quite awhile because you cant have it lookin all lame that would suck ass..
-
yeah, the shading would be hard but if you put the time and effort into it you can make something better than you'd expect. ive done stuff and they looked pretty good, only i dont know where they are now, somewhere in my trashy My Documents folder. i wonder if those pics'll ever come.......*hint* *hint* :D
-
hey, what about music? im gonna get this program in a sec to make really good songs, so i could use certain instruments to make midi songs for your Remake. im a musician in real life so i'd like to write songs for it. if i make a wee song, could i send it to you to have a look?
-
Eerrrr you can try but I dont think you can do any thing up to the Genies of the music from FFVII. Sorry I just cant imagine any other type of music fiting into the game. You would have to be pretty damn good for it to work.
-
You're always welcome to contribute music to www.legacy-ovwp.org though.
-
Wazzap, I have been visiting this website and reading the message board from a long time (by the time this message forum was made). I am actually registered, but I forgot my password(If Qhimm could read this, please send me my password please). I rarely post messages or replies, but I have kept track of what has been going on. I am curious on the FF7 project. I am starting to learn C++, but I wont be able to be of much use until I learn to program well. Although, I am good at story making. I usually make science fiction stories to my self, but if it comes to making a Final Fantasy story I would definately go for it. I have been a Final Fantasy fan for years, Played all final fantasy games, except for final fantasy tactics and final fantasy 9(my laptop can't read playstation games when I use an emulator, and I don't have a playstation). Anyways, If help is what you are looking for, I could be of some help in the making of the story. I will come back, and see if there is any response to this reply.
-
Another for the story huh? Well I dont know if they will let us in on the project in any oficial capacity but how about we get together and discuss something unoffcially then? I'm sure if we come up with some thing good they will accept it. But remember what we can and cant do.
-
Yeah I think that'd be a good idea. Get a tory and send it to them.
-
i think i could make a good ff type song. the program i said i was gonna get was the Reaktor demo but its shite. i need a good program to let me write songs, like the midi writer ones with the keyboard and stuff. and if i can get FF soundfonts from somewhere maybe they will work on writing it. ive got a really old midi writer on a cd but its quite good, i just need the soundfonts. anyone got any ideas? one of you has the site with something to do with soundfonts, i think it was Srethron. i'll go try it.
EDIT
can i download an ff7 soundfont, set it as my midi input thing, then use a midi writer to write music with it? even though i dont have ff7?
[This message has been edited by eerrrr (edited May 18, 2001).]
-
valentine: AFAIK, things are progressing fine on the story, and I think The SaiNt has decided that (currently, at least) we don't need anyone else helping with the story. (I hope that wasn't confidential information...)
Right now the help we need is on the tech side of things. We need people who have enough know-how to be able to help out Qhimm with his project and/or Ficedula and The SaiNt (and the others) with file formats.
Sir Canealot and M0T: Er, the best thing I can think of to say is that this is getting really... interesting with you two. :)
eerrrr: Nope, that's not my site. I'd guess that you're probably thinking of DagSverre. If it's not him, then it might be Threesixty or Jari Huttunen.
-
I dont know any thing about Mot and his evil plans. But I would like to know what you are doing with the story. Dell is a writer. If you are doing writeing perhaps you should eventurly consult with her.
-
Oh Man! I think were in trouble!!!
Everytime i try to put in my username and password and go into the remake forum it doesnt work... I think their has been a mistake... LoL ROFL sorry i had to.. i just wanted to act really stupid for a minute.. LoL... No really on a serious note.. if you guys have everything covered already then best of luck to ya! :) I hope its everything that well the original wasnt.. if ya need beta testers or want one or whatever ya know where i am LoL :)
-
yeah i found the site Srethron. but im not gonna try the soundfont thing. im writing a midi at the mo, its a kind of Cosmo Canyon-FF9 medieval tune. dont ask me. but when you get round the main bits of the game and you need a music man then im open.
-
I don't know anything about Sir Canealot's evil plans either, and who mentioned anything about me having eveil plans, and why is it interesting? Why?Why hast Thou forsaken me.
-
Well Mot why dont we create some evils plans eh? Mha. Mah. Hehe. Bang!. Haha. Swish!
-
Yes evil plans. Bang Screeeeeeeeeech whoosh :)
-
uuhhhmm, isnt this thread supposed to be about the remake project? i think i finished that rubbishy little MIDI, anyone wanna hear it?
-
yes, send it to me.....
-
done. anyone else?
-
errr: i'd like to hear it too, send it to me please
-
Thanks eerrrr, I liked it it sounded kinda cool
-
thanks M0T. tell you what everyone, here's a link to it. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/loiwin/Cosmo.mid . but seriously, it was something i made pretty quickly so dont expect anything special.
-
Not bad. Sounds a bit like FF game music which I guess is a plus point :)
If we need new music for the remake, composers will obviously be required :) At the moment (as I'm sure you all know...) we need more technical people.
-
WOW EERRRR! I take back what ever I may have said earlyer thats achally pretty damn good!
You guys have to fit the music to the sceane though. FFVII: Slums : Alot of the time Anxious heart will play. Its depressing and it set the scene. That music there could be used as a character theme if modified or it would suit a desert or a sparse area. In a desert type place. Sorry the heavy drum beat the slightly despressing and slow music seems to scream desert of some kind. Perhaps a special place. Any one agree? Or on second lisen that could suit a flash back with a little modification. But end result is GOOD WORK MAN! KEEP IT UP EH? SORRY TO BURST AN EAR DRUM TO I THOUGHT CAPITALS MIGHT BE NEEDED TO GET ACROSS THE POINT! Blagh! When I get rich you may be eligeble for a bag of money!EDIT: And thats another thing. If possible perhaos you should compose midis to sound good with the FFVII Pc large sound font? Just a thought.
[This message has been edited by Sir Canealot (edited May 23, 2001).]
-
Wow man that midi was damn sweet for you spending little time on it good job :)
-
Heh heh... nice one Vic um... I mean eerrrr... do I have to call you that? It's prietty cool. I see you have improved it some what since you sent me that half finished version of it!!!
-
wahoo! thanks everyone! big confidence boost or what! yeah you're right there Canealot, if there's like a secret materia cave it would be all like crystal type noises and stuff. i hope i get the place when you guys are ready!
-
Your welcome Eerrrr! Your alot better than you think you are I suspect! I will pin a note across my monitor to ask the person who may be able to draw some back grounds today. Grr. Keep forgetting.
-
yeah, i dont think i should do the drawing thing. ive been playing FF recently and ive looked at how complex the backgrounds are and i dont think i could do it. but Caddberry's still open arent you?
-
Well I spoke to my freind and he said he wouldent be able to do them as good as they are in FFVII but he probley could do some. So hes always an option. I dont think I can do much for this project except Beta test, perhaps help you with the story and tell you if music suit a particular area(I seem to be good at that lol. Great skill). So I shall stay back and wish you all luck. So good luck. Get to work.
-
Hey as for drawing i suck but dressing up photos and adding effects and filters and blending it all together to make something decent i can do.
-
i wonder how everythings going on with the project.....
-
Yea someone who is in the project give us a smigen of news!
Or is all there going on what is said in the tech forum?
-
News? Sure: things are coming along just fine.
You have to realize that this isn't something that's going to be done in a few weeks. We're going for the long haul, so to speak. We'll be finished when we're finished. Betas will be released when they're released. The plot will be complete when it's completed, etc. etc. (you get the idea).
However, like I said, things do seem to going smoothly. (Film at 11.)
-
yeah, this remake's gonna take a darn long time. do you reckon itll take longer than Square took to make ff7? also, are you gonna put videos in the game?
-
I hope not, but at this point I have no idea. We're doing this on the side in our spare time. Square's people probably worked around the clock to try to meet their deadline (gotta keep the publishers happy).
Videos... We're idly kicking the idea around, but, as it stands, they (w/c)ould be more trouble than they're worth.[This message has been edited by Srethron Askvelhtnod (edited June 02, 2001).]
-
As I have no experience in programming, this suggestion may be stupid. Why don't you do the cutscenes in full 3D, instead of videos? I think that'd be neat.
Hindsight: I guess as you're trying to use the origional FF7 code, this might not work, eh?
-
Of course we could do it in game. Why not? Every time you're in a situation where you can't control the characters, guess what - it's an in-game cutscene.
This is all slightly premature, since we don't know how we're going to be implementing the game though.
-
I know you could do it in game, but what I meant was FULL 3D... it'd look better, but I doubt you'd want to put in all of the work to do it.
-
that'll be prety tricky wont it? isnt FFX doing full 3d scenes? this would mean no more 2d backgrounds which characters run around on, so i dont think it'll be worth it. who knows, maybe some super video drawer will come along and join the team. has your friend got any previews of those pictures Canealot?
-
Hey... ah, you there! Yes, you. You spoke of something earlier about a... ahem... (whispered) beta???
Will this so-called... (whispered) beta be available to your noble posters at the Qhimm message boards? Eh? EH? *wink wink*! *nudge nudge*! Know what I mean???Parts of this post were sadly ripped from a Monty Python sketch.
-
beta? beta is good :D
-
Beta's will be made available at some point. And yes, this board would be the best place to find out about them. However remember we're still just in the planning stage for the remake; don't expect anything to be released in the near future. Beta's only get released once you've got something that mostly-works; we haven't got anything at all so far.
-
Yes, it's gonna be a very long time before anything gets released I guess. Just think how long it took Square to make FF7, and they had a huge team working on it. I'd say it would be over a year before it's finished. Or am I going too far?
-
Let not even think about how long it will take. Any way we still need to pick up an artist or two in my books. If we want to make the remake damn good then I cant see us only useing the back grounds in FFVII. Hrmn.
-
ok time wise let me clarify
WE came to the conclusion at the start that u are looking at LEAST a minmum of 2 years, period.
no joke! its a major task for such a small team, with only a hand full of tech minded members.
-
Right. But we're first timers at this, so our predictions could be off one way or the other. We really won't have a good idea of how long it will actually take until we start getting more deeply into the process. Right now we're still in the preliminaries.
-
Honestly, it really depends.
For sure, story development will finish first.
By then, we'll just decide whether we know enough to use the 'original' FF7PC engine or whether we should build our own engine.
Then will come the porting of the story to 'FF7' game format. The tech section could take forever unless we get jumpstarted by some discovery. I was gonna post something on the weapons, accessories and stuff so that fice or someone interested could take a look but I'm currently having webspace problems. :(
-
Webspace problems? Will another 20MB do? Or isnt that enough? You see I have a site for my band, but we changed our name so I need to move it to another address. So if you want you can have http://www.cascaderulz.f2s.com, unless the name of the address is important to you. You can delete everything off it and I'll send you all the login details and stuff, want it?
-
It's alright eerrrr. I appreciate the offer. I already have webspace with f2s. Stupidly however, they don't seem to support d/l. And their sites are extremely slow sometimes. I'll probably find some webspace sooner or later.
-
Oakey doke. Hey, I was wondering if you could tell me if I got the bit for writing music. I know you've got more stuff to deal with, it's just that in two years time I'll be doing GCSE coursework and won't have time to write MIDIs. At the moment I have plenty of time and seem to be coming up with a lot of FF type tunes. So could you tell me if I got the part? I wont need access to the forum, maybe just bits of info when you've finished the story so I'd know what kind of songs to write. So could ya tell me?
-
guys, theres not an encredible amount that needs to be discovered to make the game editable. I think the main thing is the files in flevel. Think about it. it holds the plains, the doors, the text, the options, and stuff. Thats all you really need to change a game.
-

Freedom 2 Surf have .exe .zip and .mp3 files blocked on their servers thats all.
-
.exe .zip and .mp3 pretty much covers it for downloads, though, unless you were planning to pimp some windows .dll's.
-
Pimp some DLLs. Thats hilariously funny at this time of night. Lol.
-
What Freedom 2 Surf can not account for though is if you remove the file extension and then tell the user to rename the file once the download has completed to X.mp3 or whatever.
-
darkness: Yes, that is all we need to know how to edit. You going to tell us how to do it? No? Didn't think so ... editing text wasn't too hard (you can look in the decompressed file in Edit and *see* the text). Anything else ... like the game scripts ... NOT so easy by a long way.
-
Not unless the whole lot of us find a lot of free time and can meet together to discuss everything out. :)
Now, that seems like a good idea :P
Let's all take a plane ticket to Sweden to visit Qhimm :)
-
Geez Fice i sensed a little sarcasm in that... :) MMiller Pimpin those Dllz! Classic! What about Win RaR or Win Ace? not as Prevalent as WinZip but wouldnt they still work?
-
If Sweden is anywhere near the Grand Canyon, I can be there in about two weeks!!! :D
-

Nah Man .. i was straight pathetic at Geography... I think she passed me with a C out of sympathy... :) .. The only way i coulda been good at geography is if every countries cash crop is "Corn, Wheat, and Soybeans" cuz thats what i always said.. God i hated that class i slept though it every day.. but thats just school in the states.. i dont know how it is in other countries.. but over here they dont really care if you dont learn.. well they do.. but they tend to leave ya alone.. It seems like each generation is caring less and less.. but that might just be my prespective :)
-
:( I thought you meant I was good.* Thanks to ol' Georgie, our country's going to the dumpster.
*Just kidding, yet again.

Well guys, I'd like to contribute to the "remaking" of FF7 because I know the game and I'm a FF lover, and if you want some help with the "3D" graphics, just wait a month that should be enough for me to learn how to make a "3D" animation. Good luck to all!!!
-
Hey, I didnt see this post appear. Email The SaiNt and ask him if you can join, and give him an example of your work too. Are you sure you'll be skilled enough to work on the project after learning for a month? If you're an FF lover maybe you'd be good at the storyline, email The SaiNt about that too. Just to tell everyone I've joined the Legacy Team Legacy team, their project's pretty amazing.
