Title: FF8 9999 Limit

Hello, does anybody know which file(s) in FF8 have the information for the 9999 hp/damage limit in the games? Thanks.

I'm referring to the PC version of FF8, btw.

I found a "kernel.bin" inside the main.fs archive. If it's anything like FF7's KERNEL.BIN then the info is probably in there somewhere. It's probably just a single-bit flag on an attack that tells the game to break the 9999 limit.

Ahh, since the GF Eden's attack can do up to 60000 damage, it might be best to try to find that and have a look at what is different about it...

Cactuar's can also break the 9999 limit. Compare that as well. Those are the only two that can.
I'd also imagine that there's the possibility of exact damage in Cactuar's. It's probably going to be stored as a two-byte exact value rather than a multiple like FF7's (Omega Weapon's Light Pillar always does 9998 dmg).

Quistis' Final limit break can do more than 9999 as well.

Huh. I didn't know that. I guess she's always been weak when I used it or I wasn't paying much attention. :)

I know what you mean. I remember going: "huh, wtf?!" when I saw it.  :-D
