Title: Having a problem with my new field model
Post by: Neo_X on 2009-04-28 06:58:15
So I'm using a field model of cloud I created it loads fine in kimera but everytime i load it into the field char and try and load up my save it crashes afterwords.
I load it up then boom black screen of death.
It is possible his proportions are a little off could this effect the game. I'm thinking of of his arms are too long.
well anyways any help i would appreciate greatly.

Update I'm closer to figuring out my problem although it loads fine in kimera I seem to have narrowed it down to the texture here are the files I'm trying to use
aaba clouds head
aaaf Ive got it set to TEX[0]=pcloud.TIM
and my text file pcloud

what am i doing wrong can someone please help me I'm going crazy :'(

do i have to change something in aaaa.rsd?

did you fill the holes on the parts of the model with kimera?
At first, I did it with mines and everytime that the game tried to load a model, it crash

hmm how do you go about filling the holes.
I will freely admit that I am new to this but I thought i had it all figured out.
Everything looks good in kimera, but im betting i did forget something.
So if you dont mind how would i go about filling holes and are holes something visible on the character or what?
Thanks in advance

This is a Hole:
(http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/7457/hole1.jpg) (http://img18.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hole1.jpg)
Before I asked you if you used this button (http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/4456/hole2p.jpg) (http://img25.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hole2p.jpg) to fill that hole, like this:
(http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/6893/hole3p.jpg) (http://img25.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hole3p.jpg)
When I started to change the models, I filled the holes with this method, but when the game loaded the model, FFVII crashes, so it can be your problem. If you havent done it, then maybe the problem is an 'unwelcomed vertex' like this one:
(http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/8942/hole4.jpg) (http://img14.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hole4.jpg) that is generated generally when you export a model (I think). Load the part again and delete the vertex.
That are some ideas that I trough what could be the problem, but im not 100% sure. I hope that helps you a little at least...

hmmm I checked into and and im still a little stumped although it looks perfect in kimera it wont crash if i remove the texture file then load it into game.
If i try keeping the texture and putting in game it just crashes.
man this is annoying :'(

How big is your texture file? it wont work if the dimensions are all messed up.
i believe both X and Y have to be one of these:
128
256
512
and multiples of those, however i'm not sure if you can use any higher than 512x512 without the hi-res patch. i might be wrong, but you could maybe try resizing your textures if they're not right

hmm the texture is 512x512  and like i said shows up fine in kimera but i did notice something whenever i load up the whole model the textures show up ok but If i load a individual part its just white. could there be something to this?

Im thinking it has to do with the texture since i can load it up without it I must be making some kind of error
even if i just change his arm and put the texture it crashes no matter what part its on.
arg well if i figure this out ill let everyone know in case they run into the same problem

you could have a texture problem because i too had a problem like that but if you use photo shop and cover the texture to 8 bit but perserv exact colors u lose very very little coloring and it converts to 8 bit which is easily made into tex file with pcreator also i would reload your model and start in wire frame model and just see maybe you have extra vortexs which are making micro holes which you normally dont see try those 2 things you should be ok.
