Well, the program you use is completely up to you. I however do not suggest FRAPS unless you have an uber system as FRAPS tends to make most games unplayable when recording.

As far as a framerate goes I would suggest 30 FPS, as it is not too fast for video yet not too slow either. Higher FPS would look better yes, however this tends to cause the video to desync with the audio, should you choose to have any audio. Thats about all I can tell you right now unless I actually went to go and figure it out for myself.

Depending on the graphics driver you use, you might want to try CamStudio (freeware ).

I've found that it records brilliantly when I'm using software rendering (and the file sizes are small with xvid compression), but when using the custom driver it records nothing.

I tried it but my problem is the screen,do not record correctly, just only a portion of it

You have to go to region and set the part of the screen you want to record.

When I record with software rendering, I select "fixed region" and record from left 1, top 1 and width 640, height 480.

cam studio is pretty much god awful compared to fraps.  I suggest you get it.

When recording footage from FF7 generally, or when recording footage from FF7 with the custom graphics driver? I've always found it to work quite well with software rendering...

fraps is specifically a directx/opengl recorder, whereas camstudio is mainly a desktop recorder.  I have never been able to get a full smooth 30 fps out of it...

Ah, I see. Camstudio has always worked for my FF7 recoding needs, at least  :-D

If I ever decide to record hi-res FF7, I'll give fraps a shot...
