Title: What .lgp contains prerendered backgrounds?
Post by: Hellbringer616 on 2009-05-14 05:07:41
I was wondering what file the backgrounds are located it, I'm thinking about redrawing (well trying to..) the first one to a higher res. Just to improve the scene when you first get off the train (if at all possible)

Also, what program would i need to redraw it? a 3D program like 3ds MAX? or something like Paint?

If you redrew them in paint that would be hilarious!  Also time consuming.    There is some kind of "Super Paint" program though, it's like an advanced paint, but I can't remember its name.

Haha i know i was just kidding about Paint, Though if i can i might make one, Just for laughs haha

Do you know of any programs for drawing? Or would i have to do it by hand...?

Adobe Photoshop -> Answer to all your problems, however it can be quite troublesome for newcommers (It simply has so many options that it's hard getting to know it at first :P)

They're in field.lgp. This (http://wiki.qhimm.com/FF7/Field/Background) is the wiki page on backgrounds; dunno how up to date or accurate it is  :?.

If you can get just one scene done we'll all be happy ;-)

I'm not kidding, I think you'd be the first one to do it.

The problem is that you can't just insert a higher res image and expect the engine to render it correctly.

But fear not, this is on my to-do list for the OpenGL driver, I have already experimented with extracting the different layers of backgrounds etc., I just have to come up with a good checksum/replacement system.
It's not going to happen with the next version, and probably not even in the version after that, but it will be there eventually.

Oh alright, well this gives me time to figure out how to redraw the images and to actually redraw one then

Wonder if we could end up making 3d inserts of the backgrounds, Probably not though right?

If you make it fit the existing walkmesh or modify the walkmesh too, I don't see why not.

It won't make much of a difference if you can't move the camera around though.

Oh and obviously you can make much better-looking prerendered backgrounds, since anything too complex done in realtime will kill the framerate.

Ah, alright. hopefully i can figure out how these things are made, I thought it was just redraw a picture and then replace the file. And it seems i am wrong haha
