Title: Is there any way to translate ENG PC-FF7 into non-alphabet language?
Post by: sickle on 2009-05-19 16:34:45
It seems possible because someone actually translated Eidos FF7 into Korean.
But the method was not released(just patched lgps, and executables only), and common text tools like cosmo or loveless does not help much in this way.
I'm just curious now because I also wanted to translate it for long but I couldn't find an appropriate tool or document that enables me to patch FF7 to use different character sets other than roman alphabets.
Is there any case of FF7 translation into the language which does not use roman alphabets(ex. Russian, Hebrew, or maybe Arabic)? It would be helpful if there has been any precedent.

You can't use the english version because muti-page character support has been removed in that version. The Japanese version has a much more complex window.bin file that supports multi-page character setting.

Eh? Is there a Japanese version of FF7 on PC?
I thought that Eidos only released English version for Windows.

Sorry, I though you were talking about the PSX version, or FF7 in general... Same thing though. The multi-page support was left out of the PC version.

Ah... It seems that they modified the executable file to extend the code compatibility to change them.
Then it'll add a huge amount of workload to research it
