Title: Anyone playing on Vista and NOT having sound cut out during some FMVs?
Post by: dyserga on 2009-06-01 17:44:23
What's your secret? How did you get past Vista's removal of Direct Sound hardware control w/e?

Does running VMware/VirtualPC on Vista and installing windows 98 still run into Direct Sound issues?

solution on post few threads up.

install loopbe and use ff7music.

set loopbe as midi device in ff7config.

then what will happen is loopbe has its own volume control so ff7 can then reduce the midi volume as normal without affecting sound in fmv's.

this isnt a solution if you really want to play using original midi's, however if you use the playstation music in ff7music it is at least very similiar to the original pc music.

If you use the Playstation music, it is 110% better than the midis.

in addition I also noticed best to turn of ramp emulation in ff7music, since that can cause sound to cutout on some fmv's.

covarr, I guess that depends on the quality of soundfont banks used on the pc alongside the soundcard.

On a decent creative card its possible to make the supplied pc midi sound as good if not better than the ps music.  My original motivation for using ff7music was I was playing ff7 on my laptop onboard realtek sound.

I am back on my desktop pc now but have decided to keep using ff7music as it allows me to use some crysis core and remixed music.
