I have tried installing Final Fantasy 7 on my system using the maximum install option. However when I try to run the game it flickers black for a second or so and then I receive a message saying that ff7.exe has crashed. This is with the original discs and the 1.02 patch installed. I have tried pretty much every compatibility mode offered in windows and all the options for graphics rendering in the FF7 Config including software, direct3d with both nvidia tnt and riva 128. I've tried 256 colors and 640x480 resolution. Nothing has provided a different result.
My system is running Win7 RC1 x64
specs:
intel i7 - 920
nvidia 285 GTX
Does anybody know if it is possible to get the game running on such a system? Has anyone gotten it to run on vista x64?

Could it be the registry? Have any of the address/values been changed to a new location? (they were in vista x64)

I don't think the registry has anything to do with it. But I think I might have found a solution. I stumbled across a custom graphics driver created by Aali and decided to give it a go. I am now able to get in game. I'm gonna test it out some more but I think this might be a solution.

I thought you were using Aali's....sorry :P

i've got it working fine on RC1 32bit and I didn't have to do a lot to get it to work.
I'm betting this is an x64 issue.

I'm running:
Windows 7 build 7201 x64
Nvidia Geforce 9800m gs
4gb RAM
Intel Centrino 2
My compatibility options on both ff7.exe and ff7music.exe are untouched.
You may want to try putting the movies on the hard drive then going into "regedit" HKLM>software>WOW6432node>Square Soft, Inc>Final Fantasy VII
and making sure all your data paths are good.
Also, I had one hell of a time getting all my drivers (originally was Vista x64) working right, so you may want to download all drivers available for your computer and install them one by one. Then google your computer type + Windows 7 to see what problems and solutions anyone else has found. After 2-3 days of tinkering mine works flawlessly
