I am sure you have all heard this one before...
But here it goes... I have searched the forum over and over again...
It might be that i am looking in the wrong place... or something.. but
I cannot get Final Fantasy VII to work on my other computer!
It works perfectly on this one...
This one is Vista...
The specs are (of the one that doesn't work)
OS: XP
512 MB of ram
253 MB video card (Nvidia)
and when i start the game all i get is a blank screen!
Um I am using Aali's drivers
And running the movies from my the FF7 directory...
And i am playing the game off a disk image of an iso i made awhile back...
On Daemon tools lite.
I don't know what to do.. i have tried just about everything!
Well not everything xD.....
So please, any assistance that you can give would be highly appreciated!
:D *dances* and if you help.. I will give back all of your materia!

On XP I had to run it in... Windows 98/ME compatibility I think? Also make sure that the affinity is only using 0 or 1, not both. Aali's driver works perfectly fine with XP as long as you use the correct one (x86 or x64). Maybe also try downloading Grimmy307's opening movie that replaces eidoslogo and sqlogo and see if it will run
Outside of that you haven't really described what is happening...
-
I have XP and i have it normal. in config Display is 640x480 NVIDIA and the TNT thats what i have.
But mine is off the internet.
-
Okay!
I have tried to re-install it...
(and don't tell me it might not work on your PC cause its older..it can run Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion.. so i think it can handle FF7)
It worked.. but... I get upside down movies... and all the words.. and textures are off balance...
here are some screen shots... THis is after i hit new game...

This is with Aali's Drivers
and i am running it in compatibility mode for
windows 98/Me
System Specs ( I wrote them down this time)
OS: Windows XP support package 2
Memory: 512 MB of ram
Processor: Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 300 GHz (2 CPUx)
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 5500 (256 MB)

i have the 1.02 patch implemented yes
I am tempted to use the 1.4 XP animewolf patch (or what ever)
But i am not going to... It is suppose to work... but
I don't know what its changing.. and it uses programs that they didn't make
-
The Animevamp patch is a piece of crap. It fucks up your gm.dls so that MIDIs sound wrong in EVERY SINGLE PROGRAM THAT ISN'T FFVII. Other than that, it offers no features that there aren't better patches to do the same thing.
Also, the problems in those screenshots are all related to textures, if that helps any.
Also, have you made sure you have the latest drivers for your video card installed? nVidia updates them pretty regularly, and so having the latest version can make a big difference for a lot of things.
-
That PC isn't hooked up to the internet.. and i have no way of doing so! :(
-
I know the issue, You didn't add the extra \ at the end of the movie path, Should be, if movies are in the FF7 directory in a folder called Movies, (not sure if it matters on capitalization, But i would just to be safe)
C:\Program Files\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\Movies\
Not the final slash at the end.
Edit is located in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Square Soft, Inc. > then click (don't expand) Final Fantasy VII
Change the movie path to the one above, and it'll work perfectly
Just read your other issue, let me work on looking into that.
Pretty sure it does but maybe the GeForce 5500 doesn't support OGL 2.0?
Have you tried updating your graphics drivers?
Link to most recent: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html
-
i already did that...
*dot dot dot*
...
:(
Thanks for attempting though! *gives Hellbinger a big hug!*
*dances about*
I guess i will just have to keep playing my FFVII game on my Vista....... *Sighs*
i will just have to switch back and forth... cause i can't do a lot of my Modding on this PC..
If i want to do the KH stuff... i have to go to my other house..... ugh!
lol
*dances* oh well.. no use worrying about it i suppose!
-
Hellbringer* haha
And update your drivers, see if that does anything (unless thats what you mean by you did it already)
And your card has OGL 2.0 support so thats not the issue.
-
i can update my drivers without internet???
-
Download and move to the other PC VIA CD/USB drive
If you aren't update to the lastest version of Aali's driver. Because last i knew that only plagued older versions.
If that doesn't work post your app.log on Aali's thread, He should beable to figure it out
-
How do i do that???
wow....
I just click update drivers in the control panel!
how do i get that to the other PC????
(and this is the girl.. who made her own pC xD)
(and i have the latest version of Aali's driver's)
-
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html
Download that, then put it on a CD
Do the same with this
http://backup.ninjaloot.se/share/ff7_opengl-0.6.9b.zip
scratch that one then.
Dumb question, You ran the Regkey right? (so it opens in a res other then default pretty much)
Make sure you are running in a multiple of 320*240
-
Thanks I will go try it now! :D
*gives HellBringer another hug*
xD
xD
*dances*
Thanks again!
YOU ARE MY HERO!
That worked absolutely perfectly!
THank you so much!
-
Anytime.

Now on to phase two....
getting the FMVs to work.
:S
the screen goes blck... and it skips the first FMV...
but i can still move around and stuff..
like i see the first dialogue "c'mon newcomer"
then its all black..
if i run head long into the first fight.. the color comes back..
or if i just open the menu...
but thats not the issue...
I can only get the FMVs to play in windowed mode... and then they are upside down
-
There is an upside down movies patch. But I would think Aali's driver would have that implemented...
-
I guess i worked out lucky as all i did was put on Aali's driver. worked like a charm.
I'd try the upside down movies patch Obesebear is talking about.
-
Okay.. I will!
But..
I wonder why they don't work while i am playing on the full screen..
hm??
Well thanks so much for all of your input!
-
If your movies are playing upside-down then you're probably not using my driver.
Probably another case of Vista's VirtualStore or UAC screwing you over.
-
yes yuffie, disable UAC completely.... it is a menace. I used a program to disable it, I haven't looked into how it is done manually.
But here>>

They changed UAC on Win7 so that its' exactly the same except harder to disable. I miss the days of XP, when there was no UAC to worry about.
But didn't she say that PC was running XP? UAC wouldn't be the problem.

Which build do you have? With 7201 whenever the UAC pops up there is a small link provided, you click that link and you can set the UAC to very high, or very low. I've got a ton of different programs installed and after turning it to very low, it hasn't bothered me since
-
I am playing THe game on XP...
I said it worked perfectly on my Vista..
I am having trouble getting it to work on my XP
lol..
but i am going to go fiddle with it today..
Hopefully it works

I turned it off, but I didn't notice the link in the dialog boxes. I had to navigate Win7's mess of a control panel to find it. I miss older control panels, where everything was either its own item or a tab in another one, rather than having to navigate a bunch of links and separate dialog boxes to change anything.
-
set it to classic view Covarr.. there is an option for that to the left.. when you first enter control panel..
its like this for Vista.. and WIndows 7 i think
-
I know about classic view. The problem is, even from inside a single control panel, you have to go through a maze of links and dialog boxes to get anywhere.
-
I'll tell you what, Covarr, it has gotten annoying trying to navigate around all the options.
The solution I found is to always use the search function in the start menu. It ALWAYS guesses what I was looking for. The only drawback is some internal programs like regedit have to be typed in fully to show up.
-
Okay... everything is working now... except the FMVs...
the game itself still plays.. just some of the FMVs won't play at all.....
Like when the game opens... you here the chugging of the train.. and all the sound effects.. just a black screen though..
then a text box appears.. "c'mon newcomer." (still black screen)
i open the menu.. and all the color floods back...
it seems to just skip over the FMVs instead of freezing..
*edit*
its Grimmy's FMVs that aren't working...
it can read the movies fine from the disk.. and if i put the FMV on the hard drive...
its Grimmy's HQ fan-made videos that are the problem...
:|
-
If the FMV aren't renamed as "avi" it will do this and if the FMV fails it will do this also :)
