The game will sometimes crash when I encounter a random battle. It seems to be random; it'll sometime take one battle for the game to crash and sometimes 20.
Here are the patches/mods I installed:
Official Patch 1.02
Custom Graphics Driver v0.6.9b
Saint's High Res Patch v0.99
The Reunion Patch
Borde's NPC mod v0.2
I can't even play the game without the bolded ones. The other patches are unrelated to the problem because I had it before applying them.
My specs:
Windows XP Professional SP3
3GB of RAM
8800GTS 512MB (Latest driver installed)
Intel Core Quad [email protected]
Any idea how the hell do I fix this?

First you want to go back to the original 1.02 patches and only use Aali's driver. The Saint's patch was amazing for it's time, but this driver has made it obsolete.
Also, the Reunion Patch and Borde's NPC mod have been made obsolete by the PRP.
I'm guessing you downloaded all of those programs at the same time right? Rapidshare? Torrent?
Do a search for battle crash. Though I don't know the fix, this problem has happened a lot

I got all of these programs from some site after a Google search. The Custom Graphics Driver is the only exception (I got it from here).
I'll do a fresh install, patch my game to 1.02, then patch it with the Custom Graphics Driver and PRP. Maybe this will help.
And I already did some searching, but didn't find anything. I'll do a bit more and see what I can find.
EDIT: How does the driver make Saint's HD patch obsolete? The resolution doesn't seem to be changed to me.
-
reaper the driver makes the saints patch obsolete by running custom resolutions. to do this you extract the files from the custom driver edit the file ff7config and change the resolution to whatever you want it to be (for me its 1280 and 1024 because thats the max size for my moniter) then save the file and run FF7 again and it should run at the desired resolution. if it doesnt make sure you have run the right registry entry (and make sure you run FF7CONFIG before you run the driver DO NOT RUN IT AFTER otherwise it removes the settings)
-
Problem is that there's nothing new in FF7Config.exe
I manually edited ff7_opengl.cfg and it worked, though.
Anyway, PRP doesn't seem to work for me. I hear the sound that comes with the Eidos logo intro, but no graphics (black screen). The game then just freezes and I have to restart my computer. Maybe I have an old version? Can someone link me to the newest?

Find Aali's thread and post your applog that came with his driver. He should be able to tell you what you need to do to fix the problem.
For the PRP you don't want to run the program. Instead find two files called 00.lgp and 01.lgp and you need to rename them to char.lgp and battle.lgp and replace your original ones. Though I'm not sure which should be named which :|

I did that and PRP worked.
00.LGP (the bigger file) is char.LGP and 01.LGP (the smaller one) is world_us.LGP
With all that done, I just need to see if I still have problems with the random battle crashes.
Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it.

Nope. Still crashing like crazy. :|
I've found an XP 1.4 patch that will supposedly fix the crashes but I don't feel good about it. Should I give it a shot?
I've also tried something called the "Battle-Swirl Fix" but it didn't make a difference at all.

Don't use the XP 1.4 patch. Read the forum rules for more information.

Thought so. It DID look suspicious.
EDIT: I got this fixed. Apparently, the crash isn't completely random; it's somehow associated with alt-tabbing out of the game. For some reason, the game sometimes crashes when the battle swirl animation tries to start after an alt-tab. So, if you simply don't alt-tab, you won't encounter the stupidity that's this crash. Don't ask me how is any of this connected, but I've done some testing and it sounds believable.
More importantly, this isn't how I fixed my issue at all. Not alt-tabbing is just too inconvenient for me when I'm trying to follow a walkthrough for a perfect save file. I had to look for a real solution, and I think I succeeded. I installed Dzuigo's MGP (Mini-game patch), and the game hasn't crashed since then.
For anyone interested, the MGP and the multi-patcher needed for applying the patch both can be found here:
