Title: So... how out of date is this FFVII patch guide?
Post by: ImaginaryRadical on 2009-06-21 17:38:51
Hello everyone. I came across this forum a few years ago, when trying to mod my FFVII PC. Unfortunately my PC was so old that FFVII on its own hardly even worked, let alone with the patches. I just recently got a new laptop, and I'm thinking of trying this whole thing again.

Anyway, I'm referring to this: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6238.0

Last updated in 2007, so I imagine that there must be updates to some of the patches there, or things that have been replaced, or anything like that. Any help here?

Off the top of my head, the high-res patch isn't needed any more, because Aali's custom graphics driver (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=8306.0) can make the game whatever resolution you want (and it fixes quite a few other problems as well).

And AFAIK the Phoenix rejuvenation project (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=7422.0) has replaced 5b (the NPC Reconstruction Project), but I'm not too sure because I use the chibi models.

It is pretty much totally superseded by newer patches.

My package is just ficedula's FF7Music with included ini and dll files, and a tutorial to go along with it. It doesn't really supercede FF7Music, it just supplements it. Not only that, but I've gotten more posts in my thread asking for help with problems than I have from people who said it worked, so I think I may have made a mistake or left something out.

As for 8.2, ff7 lessdebug, my package doesn't do anything of that sort.

YAMP (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5124) is still very useful, even if a few parts of it have been made obsolete. There are still things in there like the magic defence fix (http://files.filefront.com/MDef+YAMPrar/;13017615;/fileinfo.html) and the 9999 limit breaking patch that haven't been replaced by anything.

Exactly. I did mean what you said. (Although, I considered it as "it does not render obsolete, it supersedes.") Note that the #8.1 is also a supplementary package.
Not only that, but I've gotten more posts in my thread asking for help with problems than I have from people who said it worked, so I think I may have made a mistake or left something out.
I'm using your package without any problem, so you didn't do anything wrong.

Really? But I'm not receiving any debug data either. Then what has cut the debug? Aali's custom driver?

  • Aali's customer drivers supersedes True Motion 2, Upside Down FMV cutscene, High-Res Patch(#2), parts of YAMP(#3) and Jedwin Chocobo Patch.

The neat compilation of patches and mods is a tad outdated now, but still very useful to people trying to run the game for the first time. It was stopped so that the Wiki would be used instead. I remember being slightly irritated about it at the time, but oh well.
