Title: My second attempt at replacing a char with sephy
Post by: Xelane on 2009-06-29 09:04:50
Some of you who know me might recall that i attempted this awhile back but never was able to do so.

To specify, what i want to do is replace a character's battle model (including his looks, animations, limit breaks, statistics, etc) with another. Last time i did not have the tools to do this, but this time i seem to have what i need and i seem to understand the process somewhat well enough.

So for starters i noted all of sephiroths model files are from saab-sacz

and the character i would like to replace is cait sith (i never use him and this would actually make him useful) but if it is possible i would like sephiroth to still keep his own files so that in flashback he is the same.

So here's where i need some help. i THINK that to replace the model i have to use lpg tools, copy and extract the models (not sure if it's possible, would like someone to clarify) to another folder, change the names to match cait sith's models, and finally move the contents into battle

the problem here is that i don't know how to change his animations so that he doesn't act like cait sith (i.e bouncing around in battle, or using his limit breaks) so i would like help there. so if anyone can clear up if what i have so far is correct and what i should do from here? and for the record i have backed up kernel and battle in case something goes wrong.

You would need to change his animation files with Sephiroths animation files so when they are called up, Sephiroth will perform an animation unique to his bone structure.
Of course this is strictly in theory, it may or may not work.
Check this topic for any possible Cait Sith replacement help (http://break-off.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=805&sid=958059907528be0f633a824103708704).  TBH I don't think that project will last much longer, but they may figure something out.

So i'm hitting a bit of a snag. Today i tried replacing cait sith's whole model (ryaa) for sephiroth's model (saaa) but when i do this, cait sith still looks and acts completely the same in battle.

i also attempted to view the modified files in kimera, but it told me that i had a TEX error. It seemed that i had to replace ALL of his model files first, but cait sith and sephiroth have a different number of model files so i don't know what to do about the overlapping files...any hints would be great.

And if anyone can fill me in on how to change cait sith's animation files to sephy's (if i can even get THAT far) that would be awesome.

Edit: I remembered that wallmarket has a tab for character animations and AI. So i figure that if i alter kernel to make cait sith use sephiroth's animations AFTER i change the files, then he will act like sephiroth as well. Can someone confirm this?

Getting kinda over talking to myself...

Anyway, I figured out (i think) that the tex error was because of the lack of tex files that apparently either didn't get in or just didn't fit right.

So i decided that it would be easier to use yuffie instead since she's actually more proportional to him. But i still have problems.

for one thing sephy has more model pieces than than other models (yuffie in particular) and i suppose that i could group the p models together to compensate but i don't know how to do that with kimera.

Also i still have the problem with making her act like sephiroth if i can even replace her models.

From what i have gathered i start by renaming all of the files of sephiroth's model to match yuffie's but He has more pieces than her...Which means that there will be files that won't make it into yuffie's portion of the battle folder.

That and the whole animation thing. Can anyone give me some help?

well the aniumation thing is actually pretty easy you just have to change the ryda with sephys sada **da = the animation file  **aa = skelly file **ba - **bd textures  and the rest are the acyual model from memory

the hard part of what you wanna do is the limitbreak now much easyer because of WM because you can set which limit breaks people use with it however because you wanna go with sephy and sephy lacks a limitbreak animation no matter what you do he will come to peices when you use one

now if you where to take this a step further and change all the animations and field model that would be far more time consuming

Thank you for taking the time to actually help, alot of people havent been in here for some reason.

But while that is helpful i still don't know what to do about the overlapping files (sephiroth has more files than cait sith) and as for limit breaks i can just turn them off for him completely

Someone made a Sephiroth patch a while back that replaces Cloud.  I'd suggest scouring that thread for useful information

well the fact that you sephy has more bits then cait is irellivant because the skelly is the part that determines how many peices are required for the model in both field and battle models your gonna need lpgtools by ficedula Wallmarket by NTF1C(i think thats it) biturn by alhexx Ilfana also by ficedula and metero by cyberman

Ok tyvm for clearing that up zack, but could you please explain to me how i go about doing all of this?
Title: Re: My second attempt at replacing a char with sephy
Post by: Izban on 2009-07-04 02:12:45
you'll probly need kimera and loveless

1.well first thing being first you extract the battle.lpg with lpgtools

2.you use biturn to find sephy and the character you want to replace

3.you change the first to letters of sephys files with the first 2 letters from the character you wanna replace e.g clouds being rt** sephys being sa** all the sa** become rt**

4. you use lpg tools to create a new battle.lpg making sure you backed up the old one

5. you open up wall market click on the intital data tab then the character growth tab

6. you set the limits you want the character to have

7.create new kernal.bin/kernal2.bin

8.now repeat steps 1-4 with field.lpg

9. open up loveless change the text for the character you want to have as sephy to more sephy style text and save

10. test your work with a pre saved save file that has the character you want to replace already in the party near a split point to test the field mods too

hope my brief explanation helps

...That worked out way worse than i wanted it to...

for starters, sephy is now a jumble of himself....and pieces of yuffie seem to still be in there.

also going into battle with yuffiroth (funny nickname) crashes my game.

i guess i'll give it another try.

edit: this is just speculation but i believe that the reason the new sephiroth was messed up was because of the over;apping files that sephiroth didn't cover or overlapped...

let me has a play for a sec it shouldnt have been all messy

I would give you a picture in biturn but i have no idea how to do so AND i replaced my messed up yuffiroth with plain old yuffie from my backup file.

it basicly looked like sephiroth when he tries to do cloud's limit breaks with ice cold's sephiroth patch.

he had like 2-3 pieces of yuffie still in there though, which i'm guessing was leftover from the files that sephiroth's model files didn't replace (i guess yuffie has more pieces than sephy)

can you up a save after you've got cait sith
Title: Re: My second attempt at replacing a char with sephy
Post by: Xelane on 2009-07-05 05:21:53
I would but i honestly have no clue on how to do that. I decided that because i wasn't between getting cait sith and getting vincent (after you get vince you cant use sephy so i didnt risk it)

anyway because of that, i decided to just use yuffie for this. and i don't know how to upload saves....i DO know that i can take the save file and move it or e-mail it, but i don't know how to upload it onto here...

Edit: Perhaps i've been going about getting what i want all wrong...Like i said before: my goal is to make it so that i can use the same sephiroth that you can use from the flashback. the problem i'm beginning to see here is that you CAN change how they look...But they still act like what you replaced them with.

I've been trying to come up with several methods of adding sephiroth to the game but i seem to only have 3 options of doing so:

1: swap his battle character with another characters-won't act like sephy/won't be the same

2: make his field model usable-i may be able to do so with meteor

3: swap his field skin for someone else-no...just...no

I'm beginning to think that i could try using meteor to make him his own movements and dialogoue throughout the game but....that is ALOT of work (or it seems to be)

What i want to try now is using meteor to make his field model NOT crash the game when he comes out and just act like vincent...anyone able to help me with that?

also zack: i do greatly appreciate your help, but it looks like (i might be wrong but it looks this way to me) that i have to use metoer and give him the animations of someone (vincent)

so you want a sephy that does what he wants without input or do you want one that you can control both are possible now cause of PrC
Title: Re: My second attempt at replacing a char with sephy
Post by: Xelane on 2009-07-05 09:44:50
I would like one that i can control much more than one that does what he wants.

Though i'm a bit discouraged since i've been trying for about a week and i'm basicly at square 1.

I need to figure out how to actually work all of these programs or something.

btw i may be too tired to remember what prC is so for now i'll have to ask: what is that?

Proud Clod and most of it is just trial and error but in the end its usually worth the effort because not only have you done something but you've learned something too

i see your point, so zack what is it that you think i may have done wrong?

i mean with switching cait sith and sephy
Title: Re: My second attempt at replacing a char with sephy
Post by: Izban on 2009-07-06 08:43:42
there are 2 things that can go wrong

the first is not copying the **ab file no i have no idea what it does but its inportant because if you dont copy it the game crashes

the second is not removing all the old files of the original character or not replacing them all

the absolute most important for the the intial switch are

**aa
**ab
**da

solong as you copy those 3 you will get the stance of the character you want and the game will load it

Hey zack was sephiroth using his own weapon when you swapped him ofr cait sith or was he using a megaphone? i can't tell from the angle of the picture

and if he was using a megaphone how would i fix that?
Title: Re: My second attempt at replacing a char with sephy
Post by: Izban on 2009-07-06 12:22:00
hes using the megaphone but thats easy to fix you just copy across sephy's **ck-**cz's
Title: Re: My second attempt at replacing a char with sephy
Post by: Xelane on 2009-07-07 01:22:20
it looks like i successfully replaced all of cait sith's files with sephiroth's....with the exception of one

the sada file (which is now named ryda to be read as cait sith's) doesn't appear to be doing what it should. In kimera it is read as "not a valid p file" and in biturn it is viewed as an ff8 model (why?)

i have no idea what the cause for this is...

also if it helps, kimera gives me error 9 when trying to view it

**da are animation files you just copy them and rename them by hand cause no program as far as i know can edit them as of yet

as for using biturn for the testing the stance should show up right if you've copyed it right

I finally got it

thanks for all of your help zack

now all i need is to make him invincible...well maybe

i don't know if an invincible char wud ruin the game for me

I wanted to figure something i just noticed out.

In battle vincent does turn into sephy like i wanted BUT if i choose to give vincent death penalty he turns back into vincent with all of his regular animations. I'm not complaining as it makes it easy to change him back if i wanted to.

I just wanted to understand why this happens, the only thing i know about it is that death penalty is probably one of the weapon files that was left alone when i copied all of sephiroth's files over vincent's.

also, can someone help me figure out how to make a character's AI read it so that they are invincible?

NFIT said that i would be able to do so by copying 3/4 of sephy's initial script and putting it in another char's AI. problem is that they all have puzzle piece-like info...in wallmarket if i look in pre-battle then some chars have info there, while almost all the other's do not, the same seems to go for the others as well...so any help there is appreciated.

Post by: Izban on 2009-07-11 00:55:29
the switching back has to do with the fact vincent has more then 1 model because he has different animations for different weapons

as for the invincable thing i would think have a look at the ProudClod.dat file it has the required op codes for things like that
Title: Re: My second attempt at replacing a char with sephy
Post by: Xelane on 2009-07-11 01:09:07
oh i see, now i remember seeing vincent's multiple models...that coincidently makes him even more ideal to replace than sephy.

about proud clod, i thought it only edited enemy data? i don't remember any options for editing my own character data.

well i guess i can look again

edit: also, why is it that you seem to come when needed then when it's all over you just kinda disappear? it's like ur superman lol. you fly away to wherever you are needed  :-D

yea the files are there but i don't know how to use em -.-

Actually it looks like a copy these numbers here job, but i don't know how i would edit the numbers...

Well i know that i mean i don't know how i would change my character's data into what it needs to be in order for it to getthe results i want.

and yes wallmarket can alter char ai but i can't figure out where the values for 4024, 4028, and 4029 are which are the ones that i need.
