Title: Slow FF7 on modern hardware...
Post by: Hellbringer616 on 2009-09-09 00:06:11
Okay. So, i got a new motherboard, and it had hybrid SLI on it, with a 8300 GS onboard.

I also have a 9800GT so i thought "Hey i'll give hybrid power a shot" Works amazingly surprisingly a big boost in my modern games (mass Effect, Fallout 3, CoD4) boot up FF7.. Swear to you i'm getting no more then 20FPS... now i thought, okay it's cause i have 16X AA and it's not using my 9800gt to run it's using my 8300GS. turned of AA.. and it's STILL slow...

No correct me if i'm wrong, But an 8300 GS should beable to run FF7 EASY. so why is it laggy....?

if no one can explain it. PLEASE someone tell me how to turn off the 8300 and just use my 9800 for just FF7 as the performance boost in everything else is nice.

Tried overclock.net.. So you guys are my last hope

Only thing i can POSSIBLY imagine is that you're using some kind of postprocessing... if this isn't the case then I just plain have no clue why your ff7 is running slowly.

Also, an 8300 GS is similar to what I've got (cept I've got a laptop rendition) and I can run my game at 1280x800 fullscreen with shaders, but postprocessing tips it over the edge. My framerate also goes down when I try to record video.

What's your CPU's clockrate? It might not necessarily be related to your gfx card...

3.0ghz so i know thats not it.
no post processing though. I'll double check my config for everything i can though..

Nope, shaders are off. only thing changed from the original driver is my window size.. I'll just try and redownload it

Hmm i have an 8800gt and i can run at 1920x1080 with 16x AA on and it works flawless. The only thing i can think of is maybe disable the onboard and use the 9800 only

sadly that slows down my other games.. @.@
But with the frame display on, i get no difference in speed with AA and with no AA, and i get 25-29FPS on the field and 13-15 in battle..

well battle maxes out at 15 and field maxes out at 30

think the FPS display is off then, because it's reporting the same speeds as before. But it is running A LOT smoother now that i disabled my 8300GS

Anyone here have normal SLI and running FF7? Cause i am picking up another 9800GT in about a week, and i'd hate to find out i'm gonna have the same issue as with my 8300gs paired up..

The game (or any game for that matter) is not supposed to know you have sli. Nvidia designed it to behave as a single card as far as the game is concerned

In that case nvidia is to stupid to let me pick which card i can use (as the 8300gs can't play FF7it seems..)

I hate a fear though that when i get my actual SLI set up going it would do the same...

Well considering that the game has hard limits on the fps im not really sure sli is even needed for this game

I'm starting to think it's really funny that people think the only game i play is FF7 XD

i'm getting SLI for current games, like Mass Effect, Fallout, CoD4, DMC4, ect

I didnt assume that at all. Just disable SLI when playing ff7 if it doesnt work properly. All i was saying is that one card should run the game just fine

Oh my bad, i've been under stress lately, but that wasn't an excuse.

I'm not sure how to disable SLI for just FF7, i couldn't do with with hybrid SLI.

Check in the nvidia control panel. Im assuming if there is an option it would be in there. I know for sure it can be done for regular sli

wasn't an option that i could find, But if i can be done with regular SLI then i won't worry about it.
