How can I respond properly, when you lock the thread and then ban yet another IP, even though you know it to be a complete waste of time. Had you done your job properly and reprimanded known mega-trolls (we know who I am on about), the problems here would not have escalated and you would not be missing 3 or more valuable members.
Appointing some mods that can watch over the entire forum, might be a start. So no, I will not be "taking the hint". I have ongoing projects to do, and I have other stuff I may need to bring up with the programmers here.

Now, on to business:
Obesebear has responded in email, and very strangely, he was extremely well composed and understanding. I did not take kindly to his original comments at the private forum, and so it is no wonder I lost my temper. I also don't like the underhand way it has been done, behind the scenes whilst ridiculing parts of our work; that is not constructive criticism.
I have made a proposition with him which I think is fair and I hope he agrees to it. It would be completely unacceptable to find the hard work we have slaved on, butchered, and then made as a first release under the idea it was an "accurate translation."
I have nothing against him or others changing it after we have made the official release. At that time, people may alter it as long as they place a disclaimer saying they have changed it from the official release, which is more accurate to the Japanese game. As long as this is done, with the original release linked to clearly at the top, and credit given, I have no objections.
I only ask that Obesebear and all others, wait until we have made the official release. The none dialogue parts will be released soon enough. These would have been my terms had those in question bothered to ask me.

Like I said in my reply to you, I have no intentions of releasing anything to do with a translation... but I assume this post was made as a request to others.
The link to a .doc I provided on the private forum was simply a copy/paste of everything you had listed on your site, not a distribution of an updated kernel or flevel. I just wanted to clarify this to you publicly in case there was some misunderstanding by other members here.

It is clearly unacceptable if he is planning to release his own project based nearly entirely on our work. I also hope that if you are not being involved with this project that you delete the doc file.
I am being fair, there is no way anyone can stop another from using information of this kind, but there should be some RESPECT at the very least.

Yes I "may do" something pertaining to the magic spells and items (which is what is listed in the .doc), but all of that information can already be found here scattered throughout the forums... and even in your RETRANSLATION thread.
Your forum simply had all of that information in one place making it easier to compile it all, instead of painstakingly finding the threads and posts around here.

Your work isn't worth plagiarizing. What I was referring to earlier was your posting of original katakana which allowed me to make my own re-translations more accurately. Although I understand how that can be viewed as plagiarism as your "translations" are practically just romanized kata. I am a member of no private forum, and making unabridged assumptions is what makes you a fourth rate modder, seif.

We have gone through these items in a painstaking manner, and you come along and steal it claiming you can do a better job when you do not even speak the damn language. Katakana isn't just something you can "decide" is right or wrong, 90% of the time it is 1 thing with no way to get anything else out of it.

The vast majority of what you took is from my forum. That is much more than we left here. In any case, where we left it or did not leave it, is irrelavant. As the head of this project and speaking for those who placed time and effort into it, you don't have any right to use it without permission. I have given a major concession to you, but you are slowly making it clear that you will ride roughshod over what we want.

Do you even know what katakana is? I'll spell it out for you...it's simplified japanese broken down into syllables typically used to represent onomatopoeia's and foreign words. The katakana I used was the original katakana from the japanese version. That's not your work. The simple fact that you're claiming that it is means that *you're* the thief, and unlike your claims, that one is actually backed by a copyright.

We are making a lot of progress with this and I do not overrule what cannot be overruled. If I am told something is something I am extremely understanding. Your claims I am not are stupid.
3 translators agree with Care (I have not checked with others as they are busy). That means it is NOT my decision alone. If you haven't even bothered researching ultimania, you have no real back up at all. You don't have 4 translators working on this project, so quite simply, you are not up to the task.
If you use ANY of our work. ANY, it must be credited. To fail to do so, makes you disrespectful, not just to me, but to them. It makes you a theif and you haven't got a clue what accuracy is anyway.

Well, I swore I'd stay out of this... but what the heck. Hello, everyone!
I just wanted to say... those who are in the wrong know that they are in the wrong. Whether or not they admit it or accept it, they do know. Flaming them will be completely ineffective. When they flame other people, it is also completely ineffective.
This is reality, harsh as it is. When someone attacks you, it is not a problem unless you take it badly. At that point, it becomes your problem, and only you can resolve it by overcoming the offense you've taken. The person whose fault it is does owe you an apology, but it isn't always realistic to expect one. So it hardly matters who's at fault for the initial cause of the problem... it won't become your problem if you don't let it.
I feel content, now that I've let that out of my system. Though I'm expecting people to read this and think, "Bloody hell, not this guy again... what do you want? Go away! :x" Yeah, that's fine.
So... who am I even talking to, or talking about? That is to be left to the reader's imagination. But please don't flame me. It's hot enough on the Equator.
As for the whole copying thing... I think hellbringer616 has got the right ideas... though I've little knowledge of the background of this whole situation, so if I'm being ignorant, I'll stop talking.

Seer, I would not abuse you unless you were being so down right trollish and disrespectful as tite. Had I requested this I still would have been met with same result. The basic facts are, this work of ours was taken to a private forum, in whole or in part, with the intention of sneakily using it for their own release. No permission was sought, no respect given. Whilst some here have a problem with me, this does not excuse them to disrespect the translators whom I work with.
As I have said, I do not mind them taking parts after we have released it as long as due respect be given. The intention to ignore this is clear. I am only sorry I trusted people to have a level of respect for the project but I should have known better.
I have explained in many of the items why they are what they are and we never take any of this lightly. We did not change mystile to Mystere because we plucked it out of the air. We researched it and found out that is what it is meant to be from official Ultimania. The same goes with seydlitz and other items, they were compared and checked and double checked.
The idea that this guy can come along claiming to make a "more accurate" translation is laughable to the extreme. 4 japanese translators have worked with me and I know how much work has gone into it.
I also don't buy this "not worth using your translation" crap, when we all know that most of it WILL be used, and this will be easy to see when comparing them at the end. Moreover, using the research we have gathered painstakingly is just common theft.
Even if by law it is not illegal, it is just something that should never happen. It is ridiculously disrespectful and I am disgusted with it. I wrote this thread so that everyone could know what is going on, and I hope tite has at least some shame. I hope he does the right thing and just waits until we have finished, which will not be THAT long. The none dialogue items will be completed soon enough. The main dialogue file, will take a long time, probably 1 year.
I also don't like the nasty comments made to me and the project, made by obesebear and tite, like "your project is shit" and then "oh bt its good in lots of parts therefore we will take some of it and that is dandy"

By the way the aali's graphic driver analogy is not really accurate. His driver does not use original code from the game. It was built all on his own. Seif you are using parts of the game and calling it your own work. Its like you saying you wrote the bible because you translated it.

Although Cure is canon, one thing we started out with was a clear intention to get as close to the original japanese game as possible. kea is most certainly not cure by the katakana. Going off the katakana we must use kea. It is in very good japanese dictionaries also as Care. Cure would be kyua or something very similar. jack O Lantern also agrees with care.
I understand people not liking that but it is no different to changing:

Just because canon has taken the incorrect translations, does not mean it is fine and dandy. I do not have any authority to overrule what the japanese says. Sometimes you get some leeway (when it is kanji)
For example typoon move "disintegration" can be "top to bottom" "collapse of the universe" or "Collapse of Heaven and Earth"
But the 3rd sounds best and is also more accurate to what the move looks like.
It is these types of logic discussions that take place on every item we do.

Yes, your tone has gone back to being what I expected. Firstly, you are trying to detract from what you did in the first place (which is log the whole thing on a hidden forum). So that can't be allowed to lie. Secondly, at the time that was written I was a member here full term and because of that, I had no problem with people sharing some information (certainly although not stated, it is kind of obvious I did not mean what you ended up doing). When I took this project elsewhere and it was worked on by other translators, that changed.
Not just that, the main sticking point is, it is expected ALWAYS that due credit be given. This hasn't been, because far from having any respect for the project, you made a very nasty post about it and basically said you will do your own release using most of it. To use some information and give credit is 1 thing, to use the whole thing after ridiculing it is rather ridiculous. Also, although I may not have stated it, I alwats meant the FINAL RELEASED FILES could be altered. Not "take the document elewhere and make your own release"
Having no problem with you altering files is still my philosophy at this time. Taking the whole document and planning your own release on a private forum....is not.
It wouldn't be so bad, but you have no idea what you are on about, and feel confident that you alone are more qualified to judge the Japanese, than 4 experienced speakers of the language (Care is well documented as the correct spelling online). Calling it an abomination, to me, sums up the rather fanatical religious way you view the game.
So I will state this again 1 last time for you:
I do not approve of taking the whole document elsewhere
I do not approve of making your own release before we have released the main files
If any information is taken, credit should be given to me and the translators
This is extremely simple and not even a bad deal. But please understand that where Care is concerned and more, you are simply wrong to keep it, if accuracy is what you are going for. If you want to keep canon at same time, you should not claim yours to be accurate, because it isn't.
It is expected that permission be sought before taking information and deciding to use it. If I was to take a model you may have made and tweak it, I would not dream of just taking it without even asking. The lack of respect shown here is not just to me, it is to those working with me also.

If you think that care sounds better than cure to anyone who doesn't speak either broken or
gangster-esque English, more power to you. If this is the direction your translation is taking, I
sure as hell wont be using it. IMHO it might be a direct translation from Japanese but it doesn't
sound good to someone who SPEAKS ENGLISH. Sure from a Japanese persons standpoint this probably
would seem like a great idea but if this were how the actual translation was done we would end
up with lines that sound as if they were taken directly from a Japanese tourist attempting
to navigate an English dominate territory with nothing to communicate with but Google Translate.
Also, you should notice that EVERY(if not most, I'm not really sure) final fantasy title after FFVII up to this day that has been released in English has consistently used CURE as healing magic. Square has gotten much better at translating their games since 1997 judging from FFX and FFXII so I think that they are pretty certain that cure (a universally used magic name with FF titles) would be the most suitable
in this scenario. You also have to think to yourself "Will this sound normal and appropriate to an English speaker?"

Secondly, at the time that was written I was a member here full term and because of that, I had no problem with people sharing some information (certainly although not stated, it is kind of obvious I did not mean what you ended up doing). When I took this project elsewhere and it was worked on by other translators, that changed.
So, to simplify your argument; you made an ass out of yourself here, got kicked out and are taking it out on other people. Yes, very logical, that.

I have come up against the same criticisms and I appreciate good criticism. I have no problem once we have finished, someone altering it if they use a disclaimer and give credit, linking to the original. I accept some people will be very angry that we are changing canon, but canon has been the excuse for this rubbish translation for too long.

I would also like to reiterate what I ahve been saying all along. This forum is being made a mockery of by people who have no respect and who love to troll. There have been 5 or more people who have left here because of it.
The admin, Qhimm, has to take responsibility, because nothing has been done about it. There isn't even a mod for this section. If the culprits had been dealt with ages ago, I strongly suspect we would not be at this point.
I wouldn't even be back here posting in this fashion had I not been the target of yet another "up yours" action by a select few babies.
In any case, I have said what I wanted and now I have things to be getting on with.

My problem here is that some of these "mistranslations" seem to be blown out of proportion.
The only difference between "Malboro" and "Marlboro" is one letter. Not a big difference, and it's still possible to guess that it refers to Marlboro without looking at the original Japanese. It's not like they kept one of the earlier romanizations or Woolsey's "Oscar".

Just to put my two cents in, from someone who speaks both languages, "Care" sounds fucking retarded. But that is just my opinion. I'm pretty sure that either name for one stupid spell will not effect the "canon" of the entire game/universe/clusterfuck.
Of course you're allowed to do what you want with it. It's your patch, go ape shit with it. There's no need to argue about it or have other on the forum argue back. I can understand your frustration with someone taking your work, as it has happened to me. The only work I've released publicly on the forum was mashed up and released without any credit towards me until I called them out on it. Does it leave me feeling jaded? Sure. Will I think twice about releasing other projects? Sure. But what can you do? It's the freaking internet, and people can jack your shit in a blink of an eye. Did that happen? I don't know, because nothing has been released yet using your work. It's not like there is anything you can do about the matter, so why sweat over it? Even if it's kicked off this forum, it could pop up somewhere else, right? Just use this as motivation and devote your time into creating the best patch/mod you can.

All 5 translators have agreed with it, and more online. Even you will probably agree that it is closer than Cure. Cure would have started with Kyu for starters and did not.
I made it clear that accuracy would be taken over canon and "sounding better" from the start. That is the way it is. If people don't like that, they don't need to use it, they can use a modified version but any pretense that it is "more accurate" should be dropped.

I mean really, let us look at this here. The japanese used Care instead of Cure. This is a 1 letter difference. So is Marlboro. If you say "care" to yourself, it isn't that bad at all. What makes it "bad" is that you are used to Cure. Had FF used "Care" since the start with english translations, no one would bat an eye lid.
It is easy to go back and change the ones people feel are blasphemous (lmao). But the main point has always been, if we change 1 thing for accuracy, we cannot just leave another. That would be as bad as what the original translators did. "oh I don't like Care, so we will use Cure" "What about Malboro?" "oh it sounds ok as Marlboro anyway, so we can use that" "What about longinus?" "I really liked spirit lance....let's keep it"
and so on. It does not work like that.

Gighee is Ziggy, named after the Bowie persona "Ziggy Stardust". The katakana is a direct translation to it.
It is completely modelled after him:
