I seem to be having no end to the trouble in getting FFVII PC to work, but this latest issue really has me stumped and I don't know why. After going through the whole battery of new updates/mods and whatnot, I finally got the game to where it was running smoothly and with little to no crashing. For some reason though, after going without playing the game (or even touching my computer) for several days, now the game seems to not want to start up at all. The screen simply goes black and then crashes back to the desktop. I'm pretty sure it's not the codec, as I've uninstalled and reinstalled K-Lite probably 5 times now and I honestly have no idea what the issue could be. The videos all run from the harddrive, it's almost like it doesn't even make it to the opening Eidos logo video when I start the game up. It just crashed immediately.
Am I just gonna have to give up and reinstall FF7 -again-? If that's the case, I think I just might give up and wait for my ps1 version of the game to get here from ebay. I've googled and searched on this forum for this problem extensively but can't seem to find anyone who knows what the deal is. It seems to be a recurring problem for a few people, but nobody seems to know why.
(also, I'm running Windows Vista, running FF7 in compatibility mode)
Thanks in advance for any help.

When the game crashes, it creates a file called App.log. Find that file (in the directory with the executable) and look at the last few lines in it. That'll tell you the problem it's having. Mine did this a while back and it turned out that I messed up something with audio driver selection.

The only file like that I seem to be able to find is a readme when I right click on the FF7 exe and Open File Location... titled APP, but there doesn't seem to be anything in it.
EDIT- Not sure what the deal was, but I tried reinstalling it and now the game runs just fine (save files seem to be in tact as well). Not sure exactly what happened, as I'm pretty sure every time it crashed APP.LOG was empty, almost like the game never even got started before it crashed.
Dunno, game seems to be running fine now but any thoughts on just wtf happened are most definitely welcome.
