Title: Game Pop Quiz!
Post by: J*** H******* on 2002-01-15 22:48:00: I got another one of my great ideas; let's have a game related pop quiz. :)

I know that the relatively low user count will make the pace very slow, or might even kill it completely, but that doesn't stop me from trying.

Rules are pretty relaxed, basically it's just that first one to give correct answer gets to ask the next question

You can ask anything about game; name, people who made it, some obscure plot detail, anything you can think of. Games can be either for PC or for some console, or even coin-ops, if you want. You can also give as much background info and hints as you wish, or you don't have to give anything. Also dropping hints later on if it seems that nobody knows the answer is allowed and even encouraged.

Oh yes, the question: Name this old... FPS (that's an understatement, IMHO, but I won't go into details yet). It happens on a space station called Citadel and must be completed within 7 hours if you are playing at the most difficult level.

And to reply to your edit; it's not System Shock 2, either. Although this one is really close. :)

As for your question: I have no idea. Although my evil mind suspects that it's some beat 'em up. Or not. :D

this game was ported from the atari 2600 to the pc.the real hint is that you dig down in the ground and to kill things you over inflated them. what is the name of this game?

Post by: J*** H******* on 2002-01-23 15:58:00: Yep, mirex is right, it's Mechwarrior 2. It had Clan Wolf and Clan Jade Falcon to choose from.

3 (IIRC, I haven't played it) had Inner Sphere agains Clan Smoke Jaguar. First one didn't have any clans, but was very good game, though. No idea about the fourth one, haven't played it, and I'm pretty sure that there is no 5, yet.

Post by: J*** H******* on 2002-01-24 15:47:00: Mortal Wombat... Kombat? Although I don't know if there are five of them for PC, but OTOH I don't know any other beat 'em up series that would have five games for PC either. :) So that's my guess.

Sephiroth 3D: Yep, 4 was released quite soon after 3. Especially so if you compare it to Mechwarrior 2's developement that seemed to take years and years and included two dev teams; one was fired and other one decided to write the whole thing from scratch. :)

Not surprising really (and neither is the fact that it seems to be pretty common 'term' in web); it rhymes, the mental image of bloodthirsty, arse-kicking wombat (http://www.magicnet.net/~wombat/morepics.htm) performing Fatality is pretty hilarious and it tends to annoy some MK fans (which I consider to be pretty damn good thing(tm)). :D

Alright, I'll give little bit less cryptic hint: this British game has quite unique physics modeling for its genre.

In fact, a person who was very closely involved with the developement of this game also programmed the first game that used such Newtonian concept. That _old_ game was for Amiga, being somewhat of a cult classic.

And now for the hints; all names are ships' names and the physics modeling is pretty much unique, I-War, I-War 2 and that old Amiga game Warhead use Newtonian flight models (confused? think Starfuries in B5, it's like that). I know no other _commercial_ space sims that do that. Like I just said, the old game was Warhead, a true cult classic, programmed almost single handedly by Glyn Williams, who was also involved with both I-Wars.That is also hinted in the game, one of player's ships just happens to be called Warhead. :)

Idea to use names for a question came originally from the fact that I-War 2: EoC uses all kinds of strange and interesting names, including four or five borrowed from WW2-era Finnish warships. US fleet seems to be well represented also, so it's quite surprising that there are no names from British warships in the game (or I didn't spot any).

I found out just recently that EoC sold _really_ badly in US, and also the availability is rumoured to be horrible. Which is a shame, because the game is excellent combo of space sim and relocation of property (read: piracy) with some plot. It's very much Privateer-like, but puts little less weight on plot and more on action, which is also slightly more difficult than Privateer's and has more of a 'hard core'-feel to it, possibly due to the kick ass flight model. Perhaps the most notable difference is that EoC has very little FMV and dialogue, using text in shape of emails to carry the plot.

In short: if you like the genre, you should try it, it's really good.

Name the complete title of the game. This game is a gun shooter at arcades, you can duel against someone else, you need to have good accuracy, and you can either choose "target range", "story", or "duel" in air, city, or forest.

Major hints: You can kill almost every boss with one shot in the head, and it is one of my favorite games of all time (I may have mentioned this game before somewhere in this forum).

Its Grandia II, correct? :naughty:

The devil is Valmar and the god is Lord Granas (who, btw, has the sweetest frickin sword ever...)

My only complaint about that game is it's complete invariablility (i THINK thats the word im looking for...). There are, to my knowledge, absolutely NO sub-quests in that game, right? YUCK... otherwise an excellent game :P

P.S. Is anyone else reminded of "Beat the Geeks" yet??

Anyway, on to the question. This one might be hard, then again, it might not.

This game, which was one of the more obscure SNES titles that used the SuperFX2 chip, let you play as a mech that could change from tank to plane to a walking, stomping robot.

I haven't really been keeping tabs on the Pop Quiz, so I don't know if this game has already been used as a question.

This is an old (great) SNES game. One of the first that I played. It has two "modes" - one is a side-scrolling action type thing, and the other is an almost RPG/Sim type thing. They switch out constantly throughout the game.

I'm sure some of you have played it, so I'm not gonna give any more hints yet... unless it's too hard? I don't think it's too hard.

Anyway, have at it.

This might make it a bit more obvious but... it's "RPG/SIM type thing" is more of a "Sim" thing, like SimCity. Except you're not building a "city."

Post by: Kendrilian on 2002-04-26 01:24:18: sorry I've been a little busy, the RPG was made for the Playstation One, It was not made by SquareSoft, it requires alot of coordination, it was very hastily and clumsily made, the game is a semi-copy of Final Fantasy VII... (sound, and graphics)

not Diablo (I agree with you about Diablo Intel and you too Darkness), not Turok, and Not Real Life... (though the last is close) [not really] :P

if you want another hint I could give the people who made it... wannabees all of them!
