Okay so just got round to seeing this Avatar film - do you think Mr Cameron is a Final Fantasy 7 fan then? All this about borrowing energy from the planet / the planet protecting the balance of life at the towards the end sounded very familiar ;)

I suppose it depends; the original scriptment does pre-date FFVII, after all. This might be the only movie which' script I had 15 years prior to seeing the movie - it was leaked almost as soon as he had written it, apparently. This is like before the Intertubes were all the rage, I used BBS' back then. I probably still have it somewhere, I tend to keep just about everything - disk space is cheap.

I just dunno if that was in the original, or if he added it later.

Add Final Fantasy VII to the list of "derived from":

Ferngully, Pocahontas, Captain Planet, Final Fantasy VII, etc....

To be fair, it's just an overused theme.

There's a joke circulating around that Cameron just modified the script from Pocahontas :-D

I like the one that compares it to Orson Scott Card's Speaker for the Dead (http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/4503/27062979.jpg).

that young Jeff Bridges in the center there... that's 100% CGI
